Might be interested in the 'pod Dave, if you'd consider splitting?

It’s a great little camera (I am biased though) Are you getting another camera, I am guessing not as you are selling your lenses, or perhaps changing to a Nikon?

I too have a Lowepro bag and it great as well

Pardon noob questions - I have cameras, but not a DSLR.

How old is the model? Are lenses readily obtainable - are they silly prices - do they fit a range of Canon cameras or only that model.

How does the model differ from other similar cameras? Pixel density, speed, ease of use, manual/programmable modes, file types etc?

In short, what would make it a good/bad buy?

I realise I could go and research all this on the web, and no doubt confuse myself mightily into the bargain, but a quick summary would be much more helpful - no doubt I would get torn this way and that by good and bad reviews, and have to go exploring many other models to try and compare features.

I'll leave it up to you. I don't want to put you to a lot of trouble, but I am interested in knowing. I've been thinking about a DSLR for a while, but don't know enough to make an informed decision.

Lady E's comment above seems to suggest it's maybe a bit of a beginner's machine? While I am a newbie to DSLR's I've been taking photos most of my life, so know one end of a camera from another, just lost touch a little recently...

It was the camera to have a couple of years ago and became the first mass market camera to be taken in by the general public in really big numbers. It has 8 megapixels which is more than enough and has as a result, big photocells so it has great low light performance. There are still few cropped sensor cameras that can produce better low light images. It has most of the functions of a pro DSLR and is a great beginner DSLR. Mine has been very busy for 2 years and never missed a beat. Plus you can buy some great lenses (inc pro lenses if you wish) and these can then be used on other Canon Cameras (with a few exceptions). I love mine and really appreciate its compact size…….it’s a bit smaller than a pro camera, so if you have really big hands it can be difficult to operate. Its about the same size as a Canon 400D if you pass Jessop’s and want an idea of size.

Herse a pic or 4 with mine.

If i wasn't skint i'd be putting my offer in.

I've been wanting to get a DSLR for a while now but never get round to it. I've still got my EOS 1000FN in the spare room but haven't used it for about 6 years!!!

Currently use digital compacts..... Canon PowerShot A80 and Panasonic Lumix 100FX.

Hope the sale goes well.

Cheers

Dave.

Wow, i think Lady E has addressed the questions in this thread quite thoroughly indeed. Thank you Amanda

Yes it's a great camera, my first "proper" one. It does a fantastic job, and a total novice like myself can produce calandar worthy images from it. The selection of lenses is enourmous, from reasonably priced to thousands of pounds, and unless you are going to run off bill board size prints, the 8 megapixels is more than adequate indeed.

I do. Still have much to learn, and need a longer lens, but already feels good to have an SLR in my hands again

I can recommend the Tamron 70-300mm as a great value for money lens as I actually had one. Not a very fast lens (f6.3 at the far end) but it has really nice IQ and is a snip around £100 new. The Sigma equivalent is pretty good too, but has a metal collar on it and feels nicer in the hand. The lat test I read still had the Tamron as the better quality lens overall though.
