| JabbaSport - Snow Performance JabbaSport are soon to release Snow Performance water/methanol kits to the UK market fully.
We're currently testing these on both the common 1.8T & PD130 engine platforms to experiment with achievable gains in both torque and horsepower.
The 1.8T kit runs from the signal sent to the ecu from the maf sensor utilising the factory washer bottle (with warning system) and PD130 from a boost pressure sensor with extra bottle, however, kits can be chopped and changed to meet individual requirements.
Prices will be around the £260 (1.8T) & £380 (Diesel) mark, we'll soon be pushing these products on our demo vehicles and getting them into magazines.

Watch this space! | So has this now been tested adn when will it be avaliable do you think.
I am interested in the idea but certainly want to know more about it. have seen a few VRS's with this installed but no idea if it works well or not.
If I was to take a trip up to Jabba when I get my custom remap sorted are you likely to have your test motor up there ready and running.

| Re: JabbaSport - Snow Performance Hi Guys,
This has been tested, on our development diesel turbo kit it produced 20bhp more.
Methanol basically works as a fuel for diesel engines, whilst cooling the inlet charge temperatures and bringing exhaust gas temperature down aswell.
We're planning to do a little more development first, as we believe the kit that Snow Performance have developed for the VAG 1.8T may be better suited to the diesel application aswell, being able to take both a boost and maf sensor input. I'll see if i can dig up some rolling road printouts for everyone.
The only trouble with the kit on say a standard diesel is that the turbo would be overworked with a map and methanol kit, so fueling would have to be pulled back in the remap to let the engine use the fuel from the methanol, which could also give less smoky Wide-Open Throttle burning
As for petrols, the methanol has an octane of around 114 Octane which helps to prevent detonation, enabling the mapper to utilise more ignition advance = more power, whilst the water part of the mix cools charge temperatures, keeping the air dense into the combustion chamber.

Car: Black Fabia (130bhp 238lbsft) | Re: JabbaSport - Snow Performance Say it was fitted to a 1.8T so you could advanced the timing. What happens if you run out of methanol and drive about using normal 95/98/99rom? Will the ECU reduce the timimg?

| Re: JabbaSport - Snow Performance The ECU would recognise Knock, and pull the timing back, ideally you'd want one of our boost controllers, so that the boost can be turned down if you're not using methanol. | |

Car: SILVER Fabia (260bhp 370 lb/ft) | Re: JabbaSport - Snow Performance So it's actually a fuel? I need to learn so much about this. So it took that car from 250bhp to 275? Thats quite a car to start off with. But forgive me for saying it looks like you drew the dyno plot in MS paint.

| Re: JabbaSport - Snow Performance The dyno exports the graph in bmp, so it's a bit crappy admittedly.
But yes, it burns the methanol as a fuel

The issue I was having with the propane (after the race nozzles went in) was simply a massive excess of fuel, and copious black smoke. This is why I'm ditching the propane now but I don't want that kind of black smoke again. I was kind of hoping the water/methanol would act a lot like the nitrous, in that when water evaporated, you get oxygen (and hydrogen I guess ) which would be catalyst (and the methanol being the fuel I guess?) So adding a 50/50 mix would in a way, be like adding in the catalyst and the fuel at the same time? (that make sense ) (and adjusting the mix of water to methanol could be a way of controlling any smoke?)
