Default Mild maps?

I'm in the process of buying a Fabia vRS that has been mapped by JabbaSport by it's previous owner.

However my insurers don't seem as generous as the cars first keeper and so I am considering returning to standard.

So two questions really. Is it possible to remove a map, and if so does this mean a trip to Peterbrough, or is this something anyone could do with VAG-COM etc?

Or (as the remap is actually really nice) is a compromise possible. Insurance seems reasonable until about 25% increase on base. So are remaps to the 160BHp mark possible? What happens to the available torque with a map like this? I'm guessing this would be billed as a custom remap?

Any advise appreciated

Yep, if you would like it reverting back we do this free of charge, but you would need to come to the workshop.

As we do the maps ourself, so there completely custom we can do pritty much whatever you like (within limits)
but as this would mean custom mapping it again we would have to charge a remap price.

Hope this helps
Luke

I'd be tempted to say the turbo will be fine given the large number of remaps to the 170-180 BHP region that have been carried out. If they wern't reliable many more would have complained. Worth sticking to tryed and tested tuning houses perhaps?

Decided to stump up for the extra insurance in the end - it's just too much fun as it is. So that's one car that has been running 180 BHP for the last 43000 with no problems.

AFAIK the weak point in most power hikes is the clutch which hits problems with the torque?

mkh100, I'd get it down to Jabbasport and run through with them what you're after.

At the end of the day though, the insurance company are wrongly insuring by numbers and are only worried if you go above a 25% increase (because 26% will make you a dangerous driver!!), who is to say what is the actual output of your remapped engine?

TBH, most decent insurance companies who are willing to insure a remapped car will normally load a policy by the percentage increase a map will give the car, if any insurer says otherwise they are bulling.......So, in reality get insured with a decent company and you won't have problems...
