Default 4x4 60,000 mile service. Cambelt?

My car approaches it's 60,000 mile service. It's on standard servicing intervals, but I use longlife oil in it.

Anything else to look out for? I seem to remember that the Haldex oil was changed at 40,000 and won't need doing again for another 20,000.

I can check the above (but it's too cold to go and ge the handbook from the car tonight ), but I wondered whether I should bite the bullet this time and have the cam belt changed as well?

For what it's worth, my car is now out of warranty on "time" grounds as well as "other" grounds

Thank you,

If you can afford it and are keeping it for a while, why not ? But, if 80k is normally a safe time to change and you might sell it before then, I'd save your money.

At 60k your Haldex oil should be changed again.

Has a oil change at 20k and oil and filter at 40k and so on.

As for the cambelt, strictly speaking it doesnt need changing yet, but i'd do it. Better safe than sorry.

FWIW, I'm going to play safe and have mine done at 60K or maybe 5 years if the car has not done that mileage by then.

Yeah true, but it should be inspected at 60k service and 20k thereafter and replaced if required iirc.

Dennis, You need to get out a bit, how can you drive so little, in 18 months weve done 57000 in the Diesel & 33000 in the 4x4.

Is this official? My dealer said it wasn't necessary to change the oil till 40k but as the service book says 20k, I got JBS to do it at 20k. JBS made a few calls regarding haldex oil changes and came back with the answer that Skoda don't do the oil at 20k but VW do! Judging by the colour of the oil that came out - very clean and new looking - Skoda may have decided its unnecessary.

I will check the sercive schedule and let you know, im not 100% on Skoda to be honest I was going by my past experiance with VW/Audi. But it should tell you in your drivers handbook.

I seem to remember hearing horror stories of cambelts going at around the 70k miles mark and the dealers not covering it under "dealer consciencous warranty". I know the car may be out of manufacturer's warranty, but if you have a service at 60k, they "inspect it" and deem it doesn't need changing, they should take their own responibility at hand and cough up if it fails before the 80k service.

I think the "modified car" excuse was used. Still, I'd hate to think what the bill would be. Doesn't it blow the gasket and valves 'cos the car can't time combustion properly or some other horrible fate like that

The valves arent timed correctly when the belt breaks so the piston comes up and the vales are still open.......crunch!

You've seen that happen Ross? Must be a scary sight. Thinking about it, I suppose it means re-boring the cylinders, new gasket with valves, new piston+rings...

Seen it happen many many times, been in my own car when it did happen, not too funny.

Seen worse happen though, seeing and hearing an engine hydraulic lock it self, now theres a bang, con rod exit stage front.

The Octavia Service Schedule (ie your car's service record book) stipulates a Haldex oil change as being required on the inspection service (20,000 miles max) and a filter change every 40,000 miles.
