Bedding in brakes...

Yo people,

Got a new set of Mintex discs and pads on the front now, what's the best way to bed them in?

Brake really gently for the first xxx miles, 500?

Cheers, I want to know when I can give them some abuse

Once your brakes are properly bedded-in, they should look like this and should have stopped smelling!

Just read that, never read about keeping the pedal down after to "bed the pistons, shims and pads together and will compress the pad material".

Does it make a big difference to the way the brake pedal feels?

Can this not "warp" the discs?

Tbh, these are the first performance brakes I've had on the Mondeo so I'm not sure. The pedal feels better than it did on OEM brakes, but it did also have a fair bit of new fluid too.

I figure it can't do any harm

I'm happy to believe this article, which was the basis for me turning my brakes blue in the first place (although it turned out they were noisy because of the infamous rear caliper warranty issue - was fun trying, though!!!

Any time I've had pads etc changed by a dealer there's been a note on the speedo or attached to the invoice --"Brake components have been replaced .It is advised to brake gently and early for the next xxx miles " I've never taken the mileage as gospel , trusting the way the brakes react as a better guide.RE "the article " ---wonder just how the grease /etc in wheel bearings reacts to heat generated in this sort of "bedding in "--just a cautionary thought .

I think I might just bed them in slowly to be honest... I've done this before and it worked ok.

As much as I WANT to try it, if I mess it up that's £100 down the drain!!

I bedded in my Mintex brake box kit gently for a couple of hundred miles as per manufacturers instructions and they now judder, so not happy as I've done just this before with no problems

It's probably more to do with stopping people going "Wahey! I've got new, more powerful brakes so I can brake really late for this sharp right-hander. 5hit! They're not bedded-in yet........."

Ok, so i've done about 60 miles on them so far breaking lightly.

They're still pretty noisy, so I'm semi tempted to try this method tonight?

Can I still do it even after 60 miles, i'm guessing so!!

my brakes sound like an aeroplane braking with the groove whirl. not fully bedded in yet and ive done about 60 miles too
