| A bit of a strange question, but then I've just had a strange phone call with a salesman and wanted to check with the experts on here! Basically, I'm going to view a Fabia vRS tomorrow. It's on an 06 plate with 25,000 miles. The salesman said it's been remapped to approx 180bhp and (this is the strange part) said that Skoda themselves mapped it and not a third party. As an Audi TT owner, I'm familiar with mapping and have no issue with a reputable company supplying the map - it just seems a bit strange for Skoda to offer such a service? So, is it fact or fiction? I would really welcome any guidance from people on here in the know. Also, is re-mapping generally okay on the Fabia vRS? I've owned a Bora with the 130bhp TDi in the past, so know the engine, but that car wasn't mapped. Any comments and guidance would be welcomed - I go to view the car tomorrow morning! Thanks, Steve |

| skoda didn't do it and if they knew about it wouldn't offer any warranty on related parts either. the dealer themselves may offer a warranty though.

| Thanks for the quick reply. That's what I guessed. I'll do some digging to find out exactly who mapped it when I'm there tomorrow. I already asked about warranty and he said they'd give a year, even with the map, but I would need to get that in writing! |

| An 06 play will have a manufacturers warranty until 2009 so you shouldnt need the dealer one.

| Yes, it should be under manufacturer's warranty until July 2009, but would the Skoda warranty still cover the car if it has been remapped and, say for example, the map caused some damage to the engine...? |

| Several Skoda dealers are also REVO dealers and I am sure others offer maps as well. They wouldn't be Skoda approved though.

| Thanks for all the helpful feedback. I'll take a look at the car and ask some more questions. Turns out it used to be the service manager's private car that he owned from new before joining the dealership. They bought the car from him when they gave him a company car. So, hopefully I'll be able to speak to him and find out exactly what's been done to the car... |

my fabia was running 174bhp but only 280 ft ibs torque and the clutch was fine. As long as the torque not to high your clutch will be fine![]() Paul. | |

| Okay, mystery solved. Went to view/drive the car this morning and turns out it's a Steinbauer P-box that was fitted to the car from new. I've done a forum search and people here haven't had much to say about them. BHP is 160, not the 180 quoted by the salesman and torque is 265lbs/feet, but I guess that would suffice for the moment. Car drove superbly - my first experience of a Fabia vRS! I've owned a Bora 130 TDi in the past, but the Fabia felt much more agile and nimble. Very impressive! Just need to get the figures in order and I could be a new Skoda convert! Thanks to everyone for their replies - my first question on the forum and you seem like a friendly and helpful bunch of people!! |
