Question Dodgy Temperature Gauge

Hello all,

Over the last few weeks we've noticed an anomaly on the temperature gauge on our Skoda Fabia Classic 1.4. On occassions the gauge does sits at zero - i.e. it does not rise as the temperature does. Sometimes if they ignition is turned off and on again it will register, sometimes not. On some occassions the gauge will be registering whilst driving, and then drop down to zero. My initial thought was some sort of loose connection, but we've changed nothing on the car lately and it is odd that, for example, you can be stationary and turn the ignition off and on again and it works. Any ideas?

In addition, a couple of times over the last few months the "EPC" light has come on on the dash and stayed on. Last time it did this for a day and then went off, but we noticed no ill-effects. At the point we were about to call the garage it went off and has not been seen on again. Any ideas - could these two oddities be connected at all?

Thanks in advance all.

D.

Thanks for the advice chaps.

Does anyone have any idea where this temperature sender is located, and whether it is a user replaceable item?

Thanks again,
D.

I had one replaced on my Felicia. The job would normally involved letting the engine cool then draining the coolant. However the clued-up fitter knew a shortcut and did the job within 30 minutes while I waited. Looking at ETKA, it would seem that the temperature sender on the Fabia is fitted to the coolant thermostat housing. You should be able to locate that easily enough and have a look.
