Question Door trim

Hi guys,

I am trying to upgrade my front door speakers on my vRS. I know you dont need to remove the door trim but I want to rewire the doors using some decent wiring that will eventually be connected to an Amp in the boot.

I know there is a post kicking around somewhere, explaining how to do this but I cant find the damn thing. Ive removed the screws around the outside of the door ( drivers side) and the one near the mirror controls, I just need to know how to get the door handle and control unit off. I've tried prising it off but I think it will break if I go to far, feels too solid to be clipped on.

Pics would be great to if anyone has any

Thanks Guys

James

Thanks for that, I had a look on vwvortex.com and found info on pulling the door apart for a Bora, bit more detailed.

If anyone wants the link, let me know

That sort of info is always useful to members.. Could you please cut and paste the link into a post if you don't know how to turn it into a true hyperlink.

http://irc.junglist.org/alientech/

Its got loads of pics and a good descripton. Its about installing one of the AlienTech doofers in a Bora, but removal of the door handle looks to be same , havent had a chance to try it yet. When I do, I'll post a link to some pics and a description.

Just to let you guys know,

Got the door trim off today. Quite simple really but a real tough bugger! Does that make sense???

Its a simple job (brain power wise) but does require a bit of welly to shift it. Needless to say it was in vain.

I wanted to take a peek behind the door skin cos the speakers I have will not quite fit, Magnets too big (Infinity Reference 655cs) and catches on part of the door behind the skin. Its a real pain in the **** and doesn't seem that well thought out. I'll have to buy some of those other infinity's your all raving about and bung these on the Parcel shelf instead, or create a custom door pod for these.

Incidentally has anyone got experience of doing this and has anyone got a clue how to remove the passenger door trim????

The passanger side, P/S is similiar to take off as the drivers side, D/S. The P/S plastic handle splits in 2 to reveal the 2 philips heads screws (the same as used in the D/S). You need to try any pop off either end of the handle, try using a flat head screw driver.

Default door panel

This info will be useful when I come to fit my replacement wing mirror cowl (original has been smashed to smithereens by oncoming car etc etc.). Originally I thought that the entire mirror assembly (£110 + spraying + fitting if req'd + VAT. And I don't think that included the replacement mirror glass, which is another £36!) would need to be replaced, but the dealer, to his credit, stated that the cowl (which is the body coloured section of the wing mirror) can be replaced individually (although a b*****d job!). The electrics and base of the wing mirror are fine and undamaged, so that's a bit of luck. Unfortunately, anything to do with the wing mirror requires the entire door panel to be removed to get to the connector and allow the mirror to be removed. The door handle was proving tricky when I had an initial look the other day, and I didn't want to force anything too much.
Upshot is, cowl - £35 (unpainted), approx £25-£30 to spray it, new heated mirror glass - £36. So, even with me fitting it (dealer reckons an hour's work to fit, from my experience that'd be about another £70!), I'm looking at £100 to replace a bit of coloured plastic and a mirror the size of a my hand. Oh well, it could be worse I suppose!
Not looking forward to having to strip the mirror down into its component parts to fit the new cowl. I'm sure I could be doing something more useful with that time!

Regards,
Mark D.
