| ...come on this evening. Drove home from work and stopped off at Homebase...no warning light...started up car to go home and light (one that looks like an engine) didn't go out. Turned off engine...waited a littel while...started up again...still didn't go out. Drove home....engine as per normal. Got home plugged in VAGCOM.... Error 16502: Engine Coolant temp sensor - signal too high Had this before my service and I reckon they didn't clear it but no warning at the time. Would such a error cause the CEL to come on? Any other ideas? Going to local garage firs thing in the morning...should be ok to drive? It's only about 5 miles.

| Adrian, I had exactly the same error a few weeks back. Driving back from hospital the light came on and didnt go away. Phoned K as I also had a grinding noise coming from the car (turned out a shot wheelbearing) and went round his place. He cleared it, mentioning that it only takes one 'dodgy' reading from the sensor to switch the warning light on. Apparently it should switch off after a number of times starting the engine, but I have no idea how many times. Light has remained off since. Oh, and it should be safe to drive too If it does come back after clearing, it may need a new sensor. |

| Disconecting the battery for about 20 mins will clear it

| hay skodirs, what color is the temp sender? If it has black body then it is old and there is a new version out which has a green body, I had this fault just out of warranty and the garage said it would cost me £90 to fix...... The temp sender cost £25 and is a doddle to fit....

I have no idea where it is or what colour it is. Still got my warranty so no problems there... Cleared error code with VAG COM.....like I said car was running fine and temp gauge does it's normal "thing". Will keep an eye out on it thoug and do some regular code checks.

| how many miles have you done?? It wouldn`t be around the 30k mark, seems this is quite common.

| Mine's gone...been gone for a while now...(er, 11 months...). Dealer changed the temperature sensor, but the light came back on during the trip home. It's been off for a couple of weeks now, wondering if the cold weather has affected things. Rob. |
