I have a 1997 Felicia 1.6GLXi as well. The engine is a VW one and you can get a Haynes Workshop Manual for the car. I guess you could order one on the internet from Amazon but it is in English and it only covers servicing and repairs - not tuning.

Most cost effective mods would be to change air intake and the exhaust, and possibly get some racing cams made up for it.
Fitting a turbo will be pricey, and probably cost as much as a new engine (such as the 1.8T).
NOS would be a cheaper possibility, though I don't know how much of a gain you could do before it starts to damage the transmission.
Messing with the computer won't be cheap, and you'll get something like an 8bhp gain.

IMHO, save the money you'd spend on mods and put it towards a future investment in a faster car!

Cool Hmm I´m curious

I´m curious, is ther only one 1.6 liter vw engine 1997 ??
and if ther are many, witch one is in the skoda felicia ?
I live in Iceland and I´ve ownd 6 cars
ford mustang cobra 5.0 v8 1979 Black,
ford mustang giha (3.6) v6 1980 Gray,
mcc tredia 1983 1.4 White,
vw golf 1987 1.6 Green,
ford mustang 2.4 v4 1989 Gray,
and now the best car "not toy " I have ever owned:
Skoda Felicia glx 1.6 1997 Black

having owned mustangs, I've done some mods but the are mostly fixing what the americans on the car line didn´t bother to do, in my experience there is very little bad to say abut german/polish/check engineering and so there is little to gain from porting or milling the heads on the car and the injektors and the computer are near perfect, but still I know that thes engines can give more power & pull so my question is how
(My wife is american and is pikin on my abut me spelling so I gues you guys reading this are probobly to and woould like to tell evry one I´m sorry that my english is not better than it is, but I´m trying ... )

Default :) saving mony no I´m to stubit for that :)

I like the way you think robmawer but I was thinking abut that to but but no.
the idear of 1.8 is a clever one but turbo isn´t that expensiv if the computer has a plug for the boost controler as I´m pritty sure is ther alredy (the plug) and most of the woork is in the timing and computer so if all I have to do is reset it for the mix ant bee shore that the timing is right for the gas (95 okt) then its all a mater of exost and inter-cooler am I right so my question now is how mutch bust can the eingin handle and is ther a possibillity to hoock up a turbine to the computer in the 1.6 vw one plis qommet freely (if I´m beeing a moron plis tel me)

As far as I know, the 1.6 is a pretty strong block, so I reckon it could physically handle a turbo. Not sure whether the computer can be programmed to use it though - I wouldn't see why not, though it would probably take a lot of expensive experimenting to achieve this. And I'd be interested in knowing the answer...

Oh, and the engine in the Felicia will be the same as in the 1987 Golf you owned!

Cool Hmm isn´t the compuert in the 1.6 the same as in most vw ?

boys hear in scool hav been ading a turbine to any and evry thing they can get ther hands on so the only thing I´m afrad of (sins the block and pistns can handel it) is the comtuter I dont vant to make a seprit rev controled boost controler so I vas hoping that the compuert had the boost controle signal otlet for a boost controler (I must do this right). Any one know if the compuert has this fitur or if it is programable ? and any info on the streingth of the VW engine can it handel 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 bar I think 2 or 3 is very nice but I dont know any idears

Moving away from turbos, the Felicia Rally car had the 1.6 engine in it. If my sources are correct, that was a twin spark (like you get on Alfa's!!!). They did a tour of all the Skoda dealers in the UK (supposedly) and the mechanics drove it, a real beast apparently. Perhaps finding some technical details on that might help you in your search for more power.
