Unhappy Funny Interior Lighting Phenomenon!

Had a funny Saturday night. Doing a little pub crawl with a mate, and the interior lights below the radio, i.e the fan/a.c/light switch, etc all went black, and the dashboard light went really dull.

So, upon reaching pub promptly opened up fuse area and started looking for the culprit (using manual as guide to what does what) No fuses seemed to be out, so the general system fuse was ripped out and replaced. Then went in for a quick beer, whilst I worried what the hell was the matter.

Anyway, the general fuse being ripped out and replaced must have re-set something, because upon getting back in the car to go home, everything was lit up as normal ( reset odometer and computer though - no worries )

Does anyone else think this could have just been the ECU playing a little funny trick on me? I certainly cannot blame a fuse as they were all fine...

Mine did a similar thing with the leccy windows a while back. They refused to work at all. I switched off the engine and locked the car, opened it again and the windows were working again!

Must have reset something somewhere, but dont know what!

HAHA

Reminds me of my turbo thingy. Similar problem - it would just die, and then whilst going along at whatever speed, cut engine, restart and turbo is back online (until it cuts out 1/2 mile down the road) thankfully no similar problems since new turbo fitted under warranty.

PS: when the turbo cut out, the 'leccy windows would swap over, so the rh switch would do the passenger door, and vice versa! Most odd! I wonder how reliable Skoda ECUs are then? It seems any little problem with a part sends it all screwy!

Jason, you hadn't knocked the rheostat that controls the brightness of the dash lighting had you? And then nudged it again whilst messing about with the fuses?

Just a thought....

rheostat? I know the button that controls the dash brightness, and the headlamp dip next to it, were just not working. Plus, the brightness of the dash, went SO dull that I could barely make out what it was saying. Even the lowest brightness under normal working does not go that low. That hinted something wasn't right!

Whatever it was, its stopped now. The next time it occurs I may ask the dealer about it, but I'm hoping it was a one-off... hoping beyond hope...

Cheers
