The ECU is under the bonnet (obviously ). It is mounted on the bulkhead at the rear of the engine bay towards the passenger side of the car. It's a silver box with a few sticky lables on it.

No doubt someone has a photo of an engine bay they could illustrate with.

Should be staring you in the face I can't help as I don't have a vRS (have a TDI ECU number in front of me ) There may be more than one type of ECU given how Jabba had so many variations to cope with, so its seriously best to check yours - Just look behind the pipe coming from the airbox - should be on the sticker right on the front of the ECU. - normally starts 038 906 , mine ends in 019 AF

No problem. Thinking about it I've had three Fabias and the ECU has always been in the same place so if in doubt check in the manual.

The sticker on the box has several numbers on it, the one you want will start 038 and end in a 2 character code

Edit: Should really read what others have posted before replying!

Charlo, could you please post the part number here for future reference once you have found it?

Just been playing around with a Vag-Com on my 3 week old Furby vRS, and got:
Address 01: Engine
Controller: 038 906 019 NF
Component: 1,9l R4 EDC G000SG 5839
Coding: 00102
Looks like the controller number is what you're after.

Thanks guys, I've checked mine this morning and it's the same i.e. 038 906 019 LA and my Furby is 6 weeks old.

I will be calling AMD to sort out the One Click (£300 + VAT), which is a bit of a bargin (IMHO) plus the fact it can be up graded to a custom remap as and when required.
