| Mate of mine has a 52 reg Fabia vRS , he was telling me that everytime he brakes he gets a juddering from the front of the car . He has had a quik look at it and thinks its the discs , he has just been quoted £130 for new discs & pads (dealer) , is this a good price and is there any other problems it might be before he shells out £££s on new discs & pads

| I would say it's most likely to be either warped discs or disks which aren't quite seated flat against the hub. I've heard of damaged hubs causing the same symptoms, but it's unlikely. For discs, try eBay member: Silverwagen Direct Volkswagen parts eBay Shop About My Shop They're a VW dealer but will get any VAG part with a chassis number. I saved loads on discs and pads even after the postage was added. Very friendly, too. |

| Exactly how sure is he that it's the fronts? A previous problem I had turned out to be uneven deposits on the rear brakes. One Italian brake tune up later and they were good as gold for erm.. a month or so.

| Is he running 312mm brakes or standard? I'd check the discs are thick enough still. For the 312mm set up the discs should be 23mm thick.

| This thread should give you some pointers. The link in post 10 is well worth a read! Tell your friend to find a clear road, brake repeatedly from 60-0. After a few times, she/he will start to notice a slightly bad smell. She/he will need to carry on with the braking runs, until the smell goes away and the discs have turned blue (no, really, something like THIS COLOUR!!!) HTH ![]() |

Well, I know that's at least partly ballcocks! In Myth #6 he asserts that the "low fluid" light indicates worn-out pads! I've driven cars with fairly new brakes that triggered the low fluid warning, and he's also asserting that DOT 3 or 4 fluid lasts as long as a set of pads, irrespective of mileage and driving style! | |
