Default Interesting comment from a US tuner

I asked him re Borg Warners comment about the kO3s being limited to 215,and...

My understanding was that the KO3S had a compressor stage similar to the KO4 But it's not info I reviewed from Borg Warner, who rarely releases any info. We can reliably tune these to 215 hp, any more and you are risking turbo and engine longevity. The difference between a standard KO3 and the KO4-01 is only around 30 kw anyway. Most KO4 files we have done have dyno'd in the 230-235 region

so,Des was right, any RR that gives 230 for a KO3 is very close to seriously reducing your engine and turbo,or its just bull****

Excuse my ignorance, but which turbo would be in mine, a MY03 Tavia vRS?

Cheers

Mine on the other hand wasn't a standard turbo

So how many members' Octavias have blown their engines and/or turbos because they have been tuned beyond the safe limits of the turbo, ie 215bhp?

Exclamation

Or how many of us are running 215bhp when we think we are running 230? Me included!

Makes me wonder how many people who go to other tuners would kick up this stink if they got dyno plots showing in excess of 220 Bhp..

My guess would be somewhere in the region of.....none

Or less than 215bhp. when we think we are running 230. like 195bhp-200bhp (with chip ONLY) which is nearer the truth

I think the question here is how many people have been told they have 230bhp only to go on another set of rollers and get 195bhp, will this blow your engine/turbo, I think not.

Why does everyone get bogged down on figures. Everyone thats had a remap seems to love the way their car performs, and surely thats what counts. We should maybe start measuring performance in spm (Smiles Per Mile) instead of BHP

Cheers

im not really into figures, but if for instance my car was uning 180bhp before remap and whats being suggested i may only have 195bhp or even 200. i really wont believe. because 15bhp cant make my car as fast as it is now!!
having said that im not saying my 224bhp is 100% correct, it might be lower. but it still must be quite high as my car is far faster now than when standard so im happy

And there it is in a nutshell.

Once certain people learn to stop stirring it and accept we're all happy with our various mods, we can move on and concentrate on enjoying the cars.

Im only getting dyno'ed on sunday because im curious... if it only gets 160.. i dont care... as it still feels f**kin fast to me at the end of the day, its a bit of paper to say its remapped.. bit like a qualification certificates (alevel... gcse etc) .. looks good but means diddly squat in real life

I haven't heard any complaints yet about rolling road readings which show 'standard' engines producing better than the manufacturer's figures - in fact quite the opposite. But once the engines have been remapped, for some reason 'after' readings on the same rolling roads become highly suspect.

Fair point Denis, and did Skoda UK not tell a certain "esteemed" member that the RS engine was only rated to circa 200Bhp?

If so, we're all going to be looking for new motors soon
