| Unclip the lens and there's 2 screws inside, undo them and out it comes. If it's faulty let me know as I'm replacing mine so will have a spare soon.

| Passat W8 interior light with illuminated controls and red LED ambient lighting. Auto dimming mirror isn't too difficult but the wiring to the mirror will be seen unless you replace the windscreen for one which has the wiring in place which I don't even think is available on our Octy's. However it can be made fairly neat by running the wire inside a small piece of tube.

I have exactly the same problem, see: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t1709...t-problem.html and mine is under 1 and a half years old. I wouldn't bother trying to fix it, just get the unit replaced. Seems like a common fault. My Octy is due a service in a few months, so i will get it replaced under warranty then. JD

| mines just over 3 years old and only had it for a few months so don't know if its a long standing problem eddy - the new octavia has a little tube going from the roof linning to the mirror for the mirror so i don't think it would look much different to a standard fit item. why are you changing you light then?? just cos it looks nicer, any pics btw?

| I thought the mirror would be like the golf where the wiring is in the screen, I've seen it retro fitted with a tube though and it looks fine. I'm changing the light for the looks and the ambient light that shines onto the centre console is also quite useful. I'll post some pics of the unit itself tonight and installed once I've got round to doing it.

| on the new octavia the mirror has quite a large window mount that i assume contains a rain sensor with a little tube going upto the back of the little cntre bit in the ceiling with the lights so i reckon it would/could look like it was meant to be there

| It's probably the contact plate on the back of the switch, Bengie - it's pressed on over 2 plastic lugs. Push it on a bit tighter - maybe even a dab of superglue, and it should be AOK. The lens unclips at the front edge and swings downwards.

| Bengie - I reckon they use something strong and permanent and there would probably be a good chance of damaging the screen trying to remove it. Somewhere like autoglass would be best to ask for advice. boyced - The W8 light is around £25, here's a photo I found but it's a bit poor. BTW if you have a black headlining it's gonna need painting somehow.

| I'm confused. What's special about this light, apart from the two rather bright and presumably distracting red LEDs?

| I had one in the Golf and they aren't distracting at all, they give a soft ambient glow on the centre console. Also the buttons are illuminated.

| Fair enough. Just wondered if it had some special functions I wasn't aware of.

| As for the auto dimming mirror I'd like to fit one from an Audi All road as it also has a built in compass but at over £200 it's a bit pricey!
