K & N Panel filters ?

Had a KN panel filter installed in my 53plate vrs and have subsequently seen some bad reports about the oil & the Maff sensor. I seem to remember the mechanic saying something about it been de-oiled. Has anyone any comments or advice ?

hi.i have also through this site and the seat one heard bad reports on the k&N filters thus i decided to go for a cotton green one ( see my other posts), Demon Tweeks are the cheapest, mine cost me £34.80 including p&p.
the K&N is heavily oiled and this can affect the MAF with oil deposits...for my sins i am a trained Ford techie: but it is surprising what you can learn from this site

Apparently oil of the MAF has been seen when using a K&N filter but this may just due to over oiling after the filter was cleaned.

Why not try a Green Filter replacement panel filter...these a lightly oiled to begin with and I've not heard anything bad related to their use.

This is always I bone of some contention! Regardless of the vehicle K&N always seem to get bad press. However personally I have had no problems and had my MAF checked at the last service after running a K&N for 7500 miles. The dealer found no apparant problem. A lot of the problems with K&N seem to stem from when people re-oil the filters. Ok they can be cleaned and reoiled but its very difficult not to over oil. So I tend to use them for 30-40000 miles and then dispose and go for a new one. This works out about the same as buying a OEM one every 10000. Also remember that K&N work BETTER when grubby, so cleaning on a road car (unless very dusty conditions prevail) should never be needed. If you do reoil then I usually do so in several light coats and when I reinstall I try to have a sheet of scientific filter paper between the filter and the engine for the first few hundred miles to capture any droplets dew to over oiling.

I personally had a bad experience with an oiled Pipercross panel filter after an oiled K&N and am not sure which knackered my Audi's MAF (I think the Pipercross), but have vowed never to bother again for the gain you get
