Default L & K Remap

just been on jabba sport website, ther is no mention of remapping an L & k 1.8T is this most likely an omission. Or are there good reasons. Engine is basically the same as 4x4 or vRS right. Are brakes / susspension not up to the job?

i could be totally mistaken and if i am, someone will correct me....

i *think* that there are differences between the l&k and the 4x4 ( injectors etc? ). if tuned, i think this will get to about 190bhp as opposed to 220.

i defer to those with greater knowledge.........

The engines are not the same, not even between the 4x4 and the vRS (engine code AUQ).
But why not call Jabbasport and ask them what they can do with your car?

Cheers,

J1971

If you your car has a drive by wire throttle and VVT there is no reason why it shouldn't produce 220bhp after a Jabba re-map.

Will be the same engine as Nick (ncarring) has got. So around the 200bhp mark is possible.

hang on, the vRs has the AUQ.
the L & K has the AUM.
from reading the above details they are virtually the same engine? the only difference is the gearbox ?

Basically it should be the ECU, Gearbox, don't know about the clutch, maybe something differs inside the engine.
But the basic elements for tuning your engine is these things: big injectors, k03sport turbo, dbw throttle response and vvt.

Easy answer is to whip off the engine cover (4 plastic turnbuttons) and look at the engine. The code is stamped by the lifting eye on the end of the block. Then ring Jabba. I would imagine they can remap any 1.8T engine. Mike told me he had done over 300 AGUs when he did mine.

I have summarised previous technical info about the various 1.8T engines into this post for ease of reference. The following versions of that engine can be found fitted to the UK-spec Octavia with manual gearbox:

AGU 110KW/150bhp Octavia FWD 10/96 > 07/00
AUM 110kW/150bhp Octavia FWD 08/00 >
ARX 110kW/150bhp Octavia 4X4 08/00 >
AUQ 132kW/180bhp Octavia vRS 12/00 >

Dealing with the 3 current engines first, the AUM, ARX and AUQ share the same block, cylinder head, internal parts, intake system and throttle valve control unit, turbocharger, charge air cooler, exhaust manifold, injectors, anti-knock (thrust) sensors, spark plugs, lubrication system and fuel system (excluding fuel tank etc). Apart from the fact that the ARX (4X4) has a different return oil line for the turbocharger, and the AUQ (vRS) one different boot (rubber seal/pipe) on the charge air cooler, the 3 engines are identical. The ECUs for all 3 engines do however differ, as do the exhausts. The same clutch is used on all 3 engines (and by the AGU).

The AGU was fitted to the UK-spec Octavia 1.8T FWD between 10/96 and 07/00 and remains in production for other markets. Whilst the engine is substantially the same mechanically as the AUM, ARX and AUQ, the cylinder block and pistons are different, as are the cylinder head with valves and camshaft. Specifically, the cylinder head, camshafts, pistons, con rods and bearing shells are different, but the crankshaft, vibration damper, flywheel and clutch are the same. Other differences include the cable throttle, smaller injectors and turbocharger, and the absence of VVT. These differences mean that it is not as tuneable as the later versions. Moreover, unlike the later engines, the AGU was not designed for variable (extended) service intervals.

I am not sure from the information provided by jonathan1971 whether his sister's L&K has the older AGU engine or the later AUM. The easiest way to determine the engine type is to look at the vehicle data sticker inside the front cover of the Service Schedule, or on the boot floor under the mat. If it is the AGU then it isn't going to be possible to squeeze quite as much power out of it by chipping as the later engines, but an extra 50bhp should be on the cards.

Dont all the 'post - facelifet' Octavias (of which the L&K is one) have Drive-By-Wire throttles and VVT? Im sure the engine code in the L&K will be the same as a current spec 150bhp Elegance 2WD car. (if its not a deisel , obviously!)
