| is it just because i have a turbo or is there there something i can do to help?? basically what happens is if i am driving in a spirited manner i like to change gear as quick as i can but when i do this in my octavia there is a distinct lack of power for a couple seconds then it comes back in?? is this just lag as needs to spool up again and if so will fitting a better exhaust/inlet system speed up the spooling?

| Just sounds like normal lag/spooling, some say a better DV can help.

| already changed the DV to an off the shelf model from AMD, maybe things will get better once jabbafacation is completed(for now) early next year

| an unremapped octy should have no lag... sounds like clutch slip to me... or maybe a fault with the infernal haldex.... ![]() seriously though std car should have no lag... have you checked all hose connections esp the pancake pipe... dealers are not good at refitting them from the experience of others....

| Well mine has a very slight lag of a second or so whilst it spools up, i think that is normal.

| Mine does it too...it's normal on all turbos AFAIK...my old fiesta turbo used to do it, and my brothers old escort turbo. You can minimize it by changing gear faster, and giving it slightly more revs as you let the clutch out...if that makes any sense. Cheers Ventmore |

| right, if i hold back and let my gearchange last for say, 1.5 seconds then all is well, but if i take it upto say 6k then change as fast as i can(i'd guess about 0.3 - 0.5 seconds) then it kinda hits a wall, i.e. no power for a couple seconds then it eases back in and no it isn't clutch slip as i have a brand new uprated sach's clutch and uprated flywheel from IP that only has maybe 1k on it and why would the haldex be engaging paul?? surely it would engage if the fronts were spining and it does it in all gears, i wish my car had the power to spin as i changed from 3rd to 4th

| just thinkinh, maybe it is the 4x4. if when changing gear it makes the front spin everso slightly then the backs will kick in and a standard 4x4 not having the grunt to push it on so it struggles for a split second untill the revs raise a little and more power is available

| try reversing your DV...? i run the same clutch so i doubt its slip.... what inlet pipe are you running? or could be N75 bleeding the boost for too long on each change..

| totally standard except for the dv, and amd fitted that so shouldn't be that. would fitting a better tip, cai, exhaust etc help?? as most of this will be done in connection with jabbafacation

I know nothing about 4x4 as mines just a vrs, but if I leave the ESP/ASR on and rev it right up, change fast and just floor the gas, then the power will dip...car deciding you're giving it too much power in one go apparently. Best to drive with the ASR off............do 4x4s have ASR, or does the haldex do it all? Cheers Ventmore | |

| no asr, has esp as standard. not sure on the setup but i think the esp kicks in before the 4x4 sounds the wrong way round to me, the knows if you are turning aswell as the angle of the vehicle(forward/backwards and left/right) through yaw sensors so why the esp comes on in a straight line is beyond me

| ESP won't be triggering (is there a light flashing on dash?), neither will wheelspin be making the haldex engage... Either you are not used to where the turbo comes in, or you possibly have a boost leak. Frankly, I doubt you have a boost leak as that would trigger limp mode and that would *definately* feel slow on an unmapped octy. Sorry this is no help.. check for error codes with VAGCOM and \ or get used to a turbo..

| actually ian i have made the esp trigger when changing into second, so surely having the esp off the same thing would trigger the haldex into life. if i remember right the turbo starts to come into life around 2k and if i change out of 1st at 6k to 6 1/2k into second then surely that is then above the 2k limit so the turbo should be up and running. i gotta go do some work in a minute and have to go via a by-pass to get my van so i will try again then and report my findings

| I noticed when I first got the vrs that my gear changes - especially 1st to 2nd felt as though I was dropping a bit of power, but it was only slightly, and for a split second. It felt as though I just wasn't giving it enough revs to power it into the next gear smoothly. Part driving style and part turbo lag methinks, but as I said before, if the dip is for a few seconds, then I doubt it's lag......sorry it's not very helpful, but the best thing may be to drive another 4x4 and see if it feels the same. Cheers Ventmore |

| Could a faulty DV not be the problem. I am certainly not technical, but I seem to remember reading that if the DV does not operate quick enough, the air goes back to the turbo and stalls the blades...or maybe I'm just talking rubbish ![]() Cheers Ventmore |

| sorry, I meant it doesn't sound like wheelspin, hence no haldex engagement.... 1st is very short on ours, is angry once remapped.. ESP is only "yaw" so unless you have any lock on it should not be flashing, try it with ESP turned off to assure yourself.
