Default My Day (and More) At Jabba

OK I was expecting an eventful day , but not quite as eventful as it turned out . The day started at 5.45 , got up made myself a coffee and SWMBO a cup of tea , finally left home at 6.45 , everything fine until I misread my route planner and got off the A14 at the wrong junction , so I took the scenic route to Crowland and arrived at 9.05 .

Left my car in the capable hands of Elton , who advised me the car should be ready by 12.00 , so I took off into Crowland , a pretty little village , bought a paper and the day's supply of L&B and eventually found a Cafe where I had a £1.99 breakfast , which was quite edible apart from the sausage ! Odd thing about Crowland is that they have two proper butchers shops , unusual in this day and age for such a small place .

Returned to Jabba about 10.30 and read a few magazines and availed myself of the free coffee . At about 11.45 another chap walks into reception and says he's bought his vRS in for a remap and dump valve and is told his car will be ready at about 3.00 .

At approx 12.00 I am told that my car is ready ..............bog standard except for I put £10 of Optimax in it last night (couldn't get any more in ) and I have got 227.7 BHP with 314.2 Nm of torque , but interestingly before the remap I only had 181 BHP and apparantly a low torque of 244Nm - come on please stop nodding off I haven't finished yet by a long way !

So off I go gently back through Crowland until I reach the A47 , right give it some gun ! great I love the power , but what is this that's happening at different revs in different gears when I take my foot off the throttle , it's very jerky , so I think this can't be right so I decide to go back before I've got too far and turn round at the next roundabout and put my foot down and give it some all through the gears and hey presto it doesn't happen , so I turn round again at the next roundabout and decide to carry on home .
And what happens is it starts doing it again , so anyway I carry on home and it's still doing it but only at certain revs when I release the throttle , it's about 3-3.5K revs in 5th .

Anyway I'm about 1 mile from home and my mobile rings , it's my mother in law (strange for her to call me on my mobile I thought) telling me that my father in law (her husband) has died and could I tell SWMBO as she couldn't do it . Well that is probably one of the most difficult and upsetting things that I have ever had to do .............believe me , it's horrible .

But before SWMBO got home which thankfully was only about 20 minutes (well I couldn't bring myself to call her on her mobile and tell her- it had to be done face to face) I had time to call Mike and tell him the problem I had with the car , he I think said it could be overboosting ? and that if I was not happy with it to bring it back and they would sort out the problem , which I am sure they will as at the moment I am not 100% pleased with the car .

But I was very impressed with the Jabbasport outfit and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anybody as I'm sure that my car will sorted to my satisfaction shortly .

Sorry to bore you with such a long story , ................I could go on but I think you've had enough from me for one day

I'm looking even more forward to my jabba trip now...

Sorry to hear about your father-in-law, and it happening at a time when you're so "busy". I only hope that little thingy you noticed with the throttle is just a ideosyncracy of the jabba remap, and nothing serious.

Pete

Sorry to hear about your father in law not good news at all.

As for the RS it's defo overboost which I find strange as Mike does err on the side of caution.

I also thought your RS would hit 230.

Des , yes I thought I had a good engine , but the original RR only gave me 181 BHP , whereas others are are getting close to 190 BHp .

Was also told that if I use optimax it will increase and was advised to use 3 tankfulls of optimax then change to ordinary unleaded for 1 tankfull and then back to optimax for another 3 tankfulls and so on .

Thanks to you and everyone for there sympathy ..........not a nice job to do .............I don't recommend it

What purpose would this serve?

Not sure Quinten , but I think it's because if you use the same fuel all the time after it has been chipped , the engine adjusts it's settings ? and changing every now and again is good ? ..........I don't know why , but that is what I was told ( I'm sure someone who knows more than me will explain in time ) Was also told that the use of optimax makes more difference to the cars performance after it has been chipped than it would before .

Don't shoot me , I am only the messenger !

Hi Pete,

sorry to hear of your family loss!

Got a couple of questions for you:

was it Elton or Mike that did the remap for you?

have you been using Optimax allthe time or was is a "special treat" just fo rthe remap?

All the best.
Adrian.

Adrian , it was Mike that actually did the remap , and it was a "special treat " for the remap , but I will be doing the 3 then 1 method from now on BTW thanks for all your efforts to get us the 10% discount (not to be sneezed at)

BTW , SWMBO is on her way down to Hastings to her mother's with her daughter at the moment and am in contact every 1/2 hour .............if you were wondering why I am still logged on to Briskoda at this time .

Pete, tried to respond last night but wouldn't let me post. Sorry to hear of your father in law - I escaped that horrible task but was there when my wife got the news about her father, not a nice moment. Very sad as I loved him dearly too.

Don't worry about your car, Mike will sort it, he's a perfectionist.

Thanks again to everyone for your concern .

Phoned Mike at Jabba this morning and asked if I could take the car back over to him today , for him to sort it , he said OK , so off I went again .

An hour after arriving I was on my way home with the sort of smile on my face that I was expecting yesterday

Not very technical myself , but I gather from what he told that he has smoothed out the power curve , so the acceleration now is not quite so manic , but it holds the power better at higher revs , which is just what I want .Mike also said that he thought the car felt quicker today than yesterday - must have been that full tank of optimax I put in last night .
