| My Octavia vRS is telling me its due its 4th/80k service - its on variable servicing. Its only done 19k since its last service - does anyone know how olng I can leave it before it needs to be serviced? All servicing has been carried out by Skoda but its now out of warranty so I'd prefer to delay the servicing now if it won't harm anything. The cars just over 3 years old with 84k on clock. I bought it a year old and it only had 4k on - yes that 80k in just over 2 years!! Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers |

| 20_000 miles or so between services is a long time IMO. |

| id certanly be atleast changing the oil twice as often! variably servicing never seems to me as a good idea anyway.

| To the OP, I would be looking at getting it serviced asap. 19K miles is about the maximum time between services. I am very pro variable servicing. My previous octy vRS was on variable, as is my current one. Having done more than 140K miles split between them and having no issues with either car. Indeed the last MOT before I sold the first octy it was commented on how good the emissions were for such a high mileage. My current car was last serviced in august last year, and will be due its 3rd service in about 3 months at just under 60K miles. Modern oils are nothing like old oils, and the sensors in the engine constantly monitor oil quality and trigger the service request when the ecu deems it appropriate. BMW have had variable servicing for more than 20 years, and they seem to go on for 000's of miles.

| Running variable oil, I'd consider leaving the oil change to 20_000 or so, but the inspect/adjust items (like brake pads and spark plugs) IMO want doing at least twice that often. |

| Isn't the point of varialble servicing that you get it done when the car asks for it? ie now |

What I'm asking is are Skoda covering their **** by flagging up the servicing early and making them more money? | |

| Ah right. Mine's on fixed, and warned me of the need for a service about 1 month / 1_000 miles before it was due. On that basis it need doing soon I think. |

| So, is the little 'service' thing that falshes briefly the only indication you get that it wants one? I've just had this on mine, I'd noticed it counting down and now it has no distance, just 'service'. I was expecting a beep and a little spanner to stay up on the dash all the time!?
