Default Oil Change + MOT vs Normal "Service"

For the normal minor service (oil change etc) I usually take it to a local garage but i'm sure that they only change the oil, filters and kick the tyres so the additional cost over an oil change is over £50! Its still half the price of main dealer prices though.

To get full piece of mind I think it would be better to get the oil changed for a few £s (without oil) and an MOT, then they do a full detailed check of everything.

I'm probably being cynical here but I just can't trust garages to do anything more than the bare minimum.

Sorry, what's your point or question?

I've been paying ~£100 for an inspection service, covering oil and filter change, visual inspection of brakes (disc and pad wear, verbal report) and tyres (written details of tread depth supplied), lights etc, screenwash topup using VAG washer fluid, and getting the car back washed.
