| I've got my MK1 Octy vRS on variable servicing at the moment, basically the oil needs a top up. I've got no idea what was put in at the last service so figured I'd phone the dealers it was services at.... what a joke that was ! He told me to go to any Seat, VW or Skoda garage and ask for long life oil! Well that was helpful!I presume if you use the same spec its going to be alright I'm unsure about buying shell helix for instance and mixing it with whatever they've already put it!! Anyone done this before? Had issues? |

| If it was serviced at a skoda dealers this is what you want. It's what mines always had in - although it used to be called longlife 2 but the name has been changed. Castrol Edge 5W30 4 litre from Halfords Price £43.99 It's available in 1 liter bottles also and clearly says on the lable designed for modern VW and Audi engines. Its good stuff.

1 - mineral oil 2 - semi synthetic 3 - fully synthetic As your car is set for variable service it will be running on fully synthetic oil which is the same as castrol edge. Semi and fully synthetic oils can be mixed without any issues its just the mineral oil which is not used very often that I wouldn't mix with. I found that only in the first 10,000 miles mine burnt oil. After that it hasn't burnt a drop. In my opinion its beter to use the wrong oil than not have enough oil in the engine - if unsure drop the lot and refill - its only a half hour job.

| My local Costco sells 3x1 litre packs of Castrol edge 5W-30 for £12.99+vat. I've just bought six litres to do a service for under £31 and i'll have some left over for the next service. If you shop in Costco i'd recommend taking a look.

Thats VERY cheap. My freind has a trade card for halfords so I get a good discount. About £32 for 4 litres. Not as cheap as Costco. At that price you could buy a load and sell them on ebay! ![]()
