Default remap/rechip

I'm pretty certain to get my RS rechipped/remapped. Still haven't really decided which one although I'm leaning to Jabba at the moment after having deciding upon APR and then REVO......doh!
Did want the change-ability but then Jabba's almost half the price and gives upto 230bhp.

Anyway, does anyone know whether any of the forementioned companies would do a discount for a group remap/rechip?

I'm pretty sure that APR/REVO can do a few cars in one day; I think REVO only take abuot 10 mins to download their code. Remaps take a lot longer; I think Jabba can do 2 in a day (e.g. Ian and RSPikaLou).

Any one interested?

Cheers.
Adrian.

I dont think Revo will, over on ukmkiv's they were discussing it.

I might be interested in Jabba myself, even more so if a group discount can be arranged.

I'll let this run until after the Easter break and see if there's anymore takers. I'll then have chat with Jabba.

I know Duncan expressed an interest but Jabba may be a little too far for him.

Lloyd said he may have to go to Jabba after his latest round of mods but I assume he may want to have this done a lot sooner.

Cheers.
Adrian.

After Easter is fine with me if I have no luck with AmD, just keep me in the loop.

I wouldnt be that bothered about driving down to Jabba , its only the fact that it would have to be , A-Saturday or B-in my Holidays as I only get the weekends off (factory work). My insurance is due at the end of July so if its getting done this year I'd want it done be4 then to save hassle of phoning them more than 1 time a year!

Just thinking how long does it take to do a remap at Jabba? Normally all things being equal its around 4hrs? If a number of us turn up at Jabba at the same time and eveything runs smoothly it will take a while for us all to have our remaps done (no harm there loads of time for group photos etc).

Also does anyone know what boost levels the Jabbasport chip runs? What I don't want is a remap that gives me loads of boost but my turbo won't last the distance. I know most of you that have been to Jabba have been very happy with your remaps, but there is no harm in asking this type of question.

P.S Saturdays are better for me as I don't have much holiday left.

If Mike is remapping normally 3 hours + per car. He did umpteen rolling road runs on my car and apparently that's normal - he's very very thorough. (see thread in 'General' for results on my 4x4 V V T)

Thanks Fabpreza I may not bother with AmD to do my remap I might just go to Jabba. However, I am annoyed that I may have to pay for a remap (at least Jabba are cheaper) because AmD didn't at least put my RS on the dyno after fitting the dual IC to make sure things were OK.

I'm getting my RS remapped at Jabba (Sorry revo) this Wednesday, I'll let you all know if it is worth the money! I'ts a fair hike for me but I do like the idea of the re-map being for your own particular car as opposed to a generic on for all vehicles with that particular ECU and engine spec. When I spoke to the technical department at Superchips they said that they could only give another 10 bhp (But 50 odd lbs of torque). I spoke to quite a few tuning shops who were willing to upload the superchips program with varying amounts of bull**** coming from them. I was told that they could give me 60 odd extra bhp and that the reason it was so expensive was that the ECU had to come out and that "Another chip is fitted mate" which was from a Superchips dealer! I think the moral of the story is that anyone as helpfull as Jabba and who are happy for you to be there while they carry out the work has got to be the better choice. As a motor vehicle lecturer at a college I strongly object to shoddy workmanship in any form, let alone on my car!

Mailed Jabba on Thursday asking about potential group discount; awaiting a reply. If I don't hear anything within the next couple of days I'll give them a buzz.

Cheers.

Spoke to Jabba today about all my mods and the potential of increasing the bhp output above 230. They said it was possible but wouldn't recommend it with the K04 turbo. Which is in line with what AmD also recommend. They did however, tell me about a 280 bhp upgrade which sounds very interesting all I have to do is win the lottery or my company shares to raise like a rocket!!!!

IHI roller bearing Turbo by any chance ?!

If you go on Jabba's website and then look at the reviews/press releases, there is a review of the Golf with the Turbo conversion. Looks...expensive !

Just thinking - If you've already had the intercooler work done, Mike should be able to design a pretty awesome remap for you I would have thought ? ie Max power and torque wherever you want it.

Fabpreza I forgot to ask Mike about the possibility of doing a remap of my RS. I'll give them a ring soon to discuss this....

Can't understand why you can only get 230 bhp from all those conversions. Am I correct in saying you have a remap/turbo back system, if so this alone should yield above 230.

Is your RS a VVT engine and did AMD do the original remap?

I am a bit confused about this one I am sure I should get more bhp?

The mods I have are follows:

1: K04 turbo and larger air intake pipe
2: Dual Audi TT intercoolers
3: Complete Miltek exshaust inc Cat back
4: Remap carried out my AmD

I also had my suspension and brakes uprated (helps me to stop quicker). Not sure if my engine is a VVT my RS is a 2001 did the VVT engine come in by then?

That lot should definitely give you over 230.
Did AMD R/R the car after the last mod?

No AmD didn't R/R the car after fitting the dual ICs. I took my RS to Power Engineering and they put the car on their R/R the bhp figure came out the same on their R/R (230). However, they thought that the power delivery was a bit erractic. It is possible that I may not get more bhp out of the car with a remap from Jabba? But the power delivery maybe smoother?

Lloyd

Does the car suffer from surging or have flat spots at high RPM or both with on off power.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get to the bottom of it all.
