| I am new to this forum but I have a couple of problems with my RS:- Problem 1: On start up from cold the engine starts OK, however if drive away while the engine is in its fast idle program (1200rpm), then it either drives but runs a bit rough, or it sometimes it won’t drive and feels like its running on two cylinders and pressing the accelerator does not have any effect. The only way to remedy this is to switch the engine off and start it again. It then starts fine. Problem 2: During normal (slow) driving the engine is not as smooth as it was. The engine sometimes surges from around 1500rpm and it is most noticeable in first and second gear. You can feel the engine surge and then something shuts off just before the turbo comes in at 2000rpm. The dealer has had a look and not found the problem as yet, however it is at the dealers tomorrow for another look. Stuart Silver RS |

| Hmm...I haven't a clue, but I'd say it sounds like dodgy engine management. ![]() Welcome to Briskoda - do you fancy giving your car a good test on Thursday evening? ![]() Rob. |

| Hi and welcome Does not sound like a coilpack, perhaps your maf (mass air flow) thingy is playing up. or another sensor, do you get the check engine light come on? it maybe worth a quick visit to the dealer to hook up onto the diag equipment to see if any error codes are showing.

| No the engine management light does not come on. It is at the dealers tommorrow again anyway, but I will mention the MAF sensor to them as i have read somewhere else that that could be the cause. Thanks. Stuart. |

| Problem 2 sounds like what was happening to mine, the dealer told me it was normal so I had to get on to him a few times about it, eventually he changed the MAF and it sorted the problem. Try searching for MAF to find the thread |

| Who is your dealer? If they can't resolve it get up to Horners near the centre, speak to Gary, mention Briskoda, good service and a 10% discount. ..and once fixed, come along to a thursday night northern meet ![]()

| How many km for your car? Possibilities for surging if it is not chipped: A) Not the original filter but a "free" one (confuses the MAF). B) Dirty MAF (you'll find info at the FAQ how to clean it). Possibilities for unstable idle and rough low driving: Dirty throttle body. Needs cleaning and readjusting. If you disconnect the batery when you dismantle to clean it, it will readjust itself by the time you turn the ignition key to ON. Just wait 40 sec for the noises to stop, then go to OFF then ON & Start. What puzzles me is that when you switch off and start again remedies the problem! |

Normally i'd agree, but as the original poster drives an Octy RS, and you would seem to be a Fabia driver, i doubt it's the same thing ![]() However.. Welcome ![]()

| You are absolutely right about the Fabia But the construction of both turbo-engines are very similar, and since mine have the exact same symptoms, any indications could come in handy, as Im taking it to my garage on wednesday. Thanks for the welcome ![]()

| Before I get slagged off anymore for not posting a reply. It was the induction pipe that had gone soft due to heat from the manifold and this was collapsing under vacuum. Stuart. |

| Just to give people an update, I have got similar symptoms to this. I swapped out the Green Filter for the paper one but it has made no difference, and done the calibration trick without success. So I rang the dealer this week with details from this thread and they informed me of a technical bulletin that Skoda technical have issued, related to the induction pipe going soft. My car is booked in at the end of the month, so will post when they have sorted it, or I hope they do as my warranty runs out in April. |

| I definately have have symptom No 2. and to a lesser extent symptom 1 as well. Do you know if the induction pipe problem generates any error codes? Getting my VAGCOM cable next week so will be able to check to see whats come up on mine - if anything.... |

| Don't know about any specific error codes, I don't have VAG COM and didn't get the dealer to run their equivalent tool as there was a technical bulletin issued. They just booked it in for the end of the month and ordered some new parts. If you car is still under warranty then just do the same and get is sorted by the dealer. |

It was in for a service 2 weeks ago and i mentioned the running problems to them. They replaced a 'high pressure intercooler pipe' under warranty, but im still left with the running probs.

| It must be the MAF then. Just ring them up and ask to have the MAF looked at, or replaced before your warranty expires. I don't think it's an expensive part, but that isn't the point. My warranty expires on 6th April and my car is booked in for the 22nd of this month, but if it isn't sorted I’ll be back of the phone as the fault occurred during the warranty period. |

| As my car has the symptom nr2, especially in warm weather... Can someone be more specific about the pipe that is collapsing?? Part number or a clear description... Thank you. |

| Well mine went into limp mode again on the way to work this morning (no boost), which it was doing before it got serviced. It usually does this after a fit of poor running after a cold start. In a way I'm glad that happened because I'm pretty sure there'll be error codes logged now, so will book it back in this week. I haven't got a part number for the pipe they replaced on mine, as it was a warranty job so it didn't go on my bill. It might not have been the same part anyway - I was told they replaced it because of a leak. |
