how do i choose which one im on?

variable 10k 20k?

Paul,

They all come set to variable (QG1 in service book) however your dealer may have set it to 10k. You will know because if you get to 10k without the 'Service xxx' appearing then you are on variable.

Mine was set to fixed without even asking. Not that I really mind as I do too little miles for variable servicing...

It will appear in your Odometer , watch out as you put the key in and turn it to start the car as thats when it is displayed , once the car starts it dissapears , so if your not looking as you twist the key , you'll miss it!

Yeah - When I approach my interval "OIL" flashes up on the odometer to remind me. My bloody dealer forgot to turn it off after my 10K service, and I had to take it back for them to do...

Took my car in for its 30,000 service at the weekend (its on standard and not variable servicing at the mo) and asked about variable servicing. The service manager said he would quite happily change it onto variable but said that he didn't feel it was worth it for two reasons being (1) the increased cost of the long life oil meant that there was hardly any cost saving (ie cost of two variable services would equate to three normal ones). (2) said some people on variable had had their warnign lights come on very early (ie 5,000 miles) for a variety of reasons which would negate any cost saving.

I decided against putting it on the variable as am naturally a bit cautious and happy with an annual checkup.

BTW cost of service was pretty good (£82) and they (Caffyns in Ashford) were very helpful / willing to chat and fixed several bits under warranty.

They have put in a report to Skoda about replacing seat covers (fraying at the front in the usual place) so hopefully they will get the thumbs up to go ahead on that soon

You should be fine RE the seat cover , I had mine replaced under warranty no probs , and its quite a 'known' problem , so they will have had countless others done!

Mine was indeed changed without even asking for it. Seems like a very common problem...

I'm about to turn 24k tomorrow morning, which means at least 25 before service. I don't know if the diesels are more tolerant than the petrol, but from memory diesels nearly always needed more frequent oil changes. I suspect the timing has drifted ever so slightly as it's not as smooth (for a diesel) as before.

I'm just not looking forward to the £60 for oil when it does need it.
