Question Servicing Costs

I've seen a quote for the cost of a 30k service at about £80 in one of the threads - mines a vRS - what should I expect to pay (total - parts + labour + vat) for a 2yr service?
thanks, Rob

Rob - was me that paid £82 for the 30k service (included parts & labour & vat). My car (RS) is two years old and had already had a service at 20k. My price was on the basis of Fixed Servicing (ie normal oil and NOT long-life) - if yours is on variable servicing it will be susbstantially more expensive particularly if it is also its 1st service. Ring them up and get an idea

Hmmm... I was told my 30k service (petrol 1.4 fabia 16v) would be about £120ish I think (or was it 104?)

This will be the second service - first was at about 11k/10 months.

(This will really be the 28.8k service, but that looks too much like a modem speed!)

Not a lot, Big K... not a lot!

When in a while back I enquired why I hadn't had any indication of needing a service, and they suddenly decided my car was only a few hundred miles away from it - dash display now flashes the service reminder when I start up...

So did I mess up or did they? <sinking feeling>

Marlborough Skoda's service pricing is here. Bear in mind that it is a W London (Isleworth) dealership and that the prices probably reflect expensive labour rates. Most members who have seen and commented on those prices haven't been charged anywhere near them by their own dealers. Those with Fabia 1.9 diesels will be trading them in before the 60K service!

hi all
I have a 2000 octy slxi 1.8t. and the dealer wants 170 quid for a 30k service (3rd service not a major one), this is a fixed service, independant vag specialist 100quid using original parts, guess where its going lol.
cheers Fram

Just had my vRS serviced for the 1st time at 20,000 miles.

Garage quoted approx £220 inc (car is on variable servicing & Longlife oil)

Collected it later £218 inc everything.

Not too bad I suppose

Sorry Rob - must have missed your original query. Car was serviced at Caffyns in Ashford, Kent - they are an official Skoda dealership and also run a Vauxhall dealership in a separate building next door. They seemed pretty friendly and efficient.

Thanks. Mine is coming up to 30k and I had the car switched back to fixed 10k intervals at 20k.
I'll give them a call when its due and see what they quote me compared with more local dealers. I am always prepared to travel.... now thinking .... loan car, day trip to France, collect car after service May be an insurance problem with that idea !

Just had my 1.6 in for 30k service this morning (oil change, check over + requested air filter change).
Came to £105.30, which was broken down as about 40 quid labour, 35 quid for oil, and 15 quid for air filter, disposal, etc. And the rest was VAT.

I'm happy with that!

I've just been told my 40,000 service for my TDI is going to be £278!!!

Combined with a £500'ish insurance renewal this week means I'm going to be a bit poor for a while (lucky I was able to save up just over a grand, now its all bloody going to disappear - and without a decent mod!)

Being young's a pain...at least you live in a decent area...

Any idea if the 60k is as steep as is rumoured?

To add to this thread re the 30k Octavia cost, I've just been quoted "about £65" for my 4x4 / same engine as vRS. This is on normal oil as I opted out of variable servicing.

That's about £40 less than my Subaru dealer would charge for a similar oil change service at 7,500m

So whats the deal with the variable servicing then?
Do you have a choice?

If your car has the factory set-up for variable servicing, you can have it changed back to fixed interval (10k) servicing if you want. I ran an Audi on variable servicing & long life oil for 45k with no problems, but as the car has been remapped, I'd prefer a 10k rather than a 16k+ oil change. Just a personal choice.

So how does the cost of variable and fixed servicing compare?

Is it the case that it's either several small amounts for fixed or one large payment for variable with them near enough balancing out?

This is a darn sight cheaper than servicing the Impreza was !

I had my 30k Octavia 4x4 service completed a week ago and in the end the bill came to only £59 including vat. Well happy !

If I decide to go to variable at the time of the major 40k one, the cost will be £240 at the same dealer.

I believe that you can only go variable if you have been using the correct Longlife oil from new.

As always with Denis, he's not often wrong. Once on fixed, you stay fixed. (Although I believe Jon uses longlife oil even on fixed intervals, so maybe he could get away with it). I don't even know if the dealer can switch back to variable in the ECU once it has been switched to fixed.

Hmmm... where's big k or skodaw when you need them?

I've just had a 40,000 mile service (2nd variable service) carried out on my vRS - total cost a mere £340

The bill included such delights as injection cleaner, engine flush and brake cleaning fluid (even though the pads weren't replaced). Spark plugs £14 each - good job it only needs 4!

I thought the 20k service was quite reasonable, but was shocked when I got the bill this time around.

Apparently it'll need new disks on the next service - only £80 (each)

Have I been ripped off???

My vRs is on variable service and had its first service 18.5K after service indicator came on. Would have cost me £260.00 but have service contract with Skoda.
The interesting thing is that when the garage rang for authorisation and quoted the mileage the V.A.G guy the other end asked why it had not been done at 10K as first service. They told him it was on extended service intervals. He told them that regardless of this under their service contract it has to be done every 10K. Fine by me but why?

The skoda Garage dont get the full £260.00 either all parts are at cost and i think different rate of labour.

Paul
