Slaves

Before William get's all excited, I'm not conducting a poll on slavery

I went to drive home from work last night and the clutch wouldn't engage. I called out the AA (Skoda Assistance) and they said the clutch slave cylinder seals have gone. So, I've got a nice new Golf to play in for a couple of days while the dealer (hopefully) fixes it under warranty tomorrow.

After doing a search on the forums, it looks like I'm not the first that this has happened to. I was very odd though, worked fine in the morning, failed in the evening

It's the first thing to go wrong in a year's ownership, so I'm not too worried.

Andy

slave? Is that what my illegal immigrant chauffeur would be technically? I shan't talk about anything my mate got up to in the Caribbean then.

(PS: I don't have an illegal immigrant chauffeur, and wouldn't condone using them as free drivers... )

I had my clutch master cylinder replaced under warranty for the well-known 'clutch pedal sticking down in cold weather' problem. The new master cylinder is a modified one (I hope).

skoda replaced mine while replacing my gearbox as they said it had a leak, funny as i had the car looked at and fixed by an extremely competant and honest mechanic friend recently and he seemed perplexed by this as he said it worked perfectly when he see it and its only done about 100 miles since then

** UPDATE **

Garage just called to say it's not slave cylinder, it is the clutch. Now it all depends on whether it's wear and tear or manufacturer's defect as to who may have to foot the bill of £700-ish, please let it not be me

I did discuss the possibility of a clutch upgrade whilst on the phone, as a Skoda genuine item is £390+VAT, I might as well go for a Sachs clutch upgrade from ABD racing with a lightened flywheel for £450. If it's a warranty job I'll have to keep the std one, if it's my money I'll upgrade it.

Any advice welcome...........

Ta,

Andy

IMO a clutch should do tens of thousands of miles, so sounds like a warranty issue to me. *fingers crossed
