Default Speedbuster Tuning Box

Has anyone had any experience of this device with a TDi 110 bhp
In the past these types of units have been selling for around £350-£400.
The UK importer for this type, DieselTech is selling these on Ebay for £149.99 inc. carriage. Claims 25bhp increase + usual torque increase.
Any opinions on whether this is worth trying, or should I not be a cheapskate and just get a re- map??
Haven't heard from Jabba yet whether they have finished serial port re-map for TDi (non PD).
Any (decent) suggestions greatfully received!
John.

John

I think Matt has a similar tuning box and I seem to recall that he didn't particularly like it. This was with a 100BHP TDI though, if that makes a difference. Perhaps a re-map would be better? I'd let Matt post his views first though before trying anything.

Cheers

I can't comment on that particular model of Tuning Box but can in general.

The best I had was the Hopa (German TUV approved) module which I believe Bromleys now rebadge ?
This worked very well on my A4 TDi 110 quattro and boost power to just udner 140bhp, but it was the extra mid-range torque that was noticeable rather than easier revving over 4000rpm. The other plus point was that it had two small screws that you could use to fine tune - to limit or eradicate black smoke from the exhaust. This is basically 'all' that you are doing in a TD, adding more fuel.

The other was on my V6 TDi quattro which was the one branded 'Tuning Box'. Worked well in terms of power but not adjustable and tended to black smoke if you booted it at low revs in a higher gear. I actually sold this and fitted an Oettinger re-chip in the end.

One last comment - I don't 'think' Jabba remap the 110, only the VAG PD engines ?

Hope that helps ?

This is Jabbasport's Skoda TDI tuning page with a list of engines which can be tuned. No mention of the 110.

Thanks for the comments so far - I spoke to Jabba a few weeks ago and they told me that they are developing serial port re-map for TDi (non PD) and I left my contact no for them to let me know when it was ready - apparently they have had a lot of enquiries for the TDi.
I am still dissapointed that all my enquiries to Skoda before I got the TDi in April, denied that the PD130 would be available in this generation of Octavia!
Mind you, Skoda customer service also stated that you could only have a beige interior on the L&K, so I should have been wary!

John,

I have almost the identical car to you (hatch not estate, and beige leather). I too am interested in a remap at some point, so if you hear anything from Jabbasport then could you let me know?

Cheers,

Howard

Hi Howard,
Yes, no problem - I will probably give them a ring next week to check on progress.

I'll ask Jabba tomorrow if they are now doing the 110 tdi.

IMHO a remap is far better than a TB on a PD engine anyway. I stress remap as opposed to rechip though due to bad experiences with the latter.

The Bromleys PD unit is a rebadged Kuberl unit. This can be adjusted via a laptop I have recently discovered.

Also TDi remaps at Jabba are cheaper than those for petrol @ £350.
