Default Squeaking Rear brakes

Been loving my nice Octy but i had noticed that when i reverse i get a squeaking from the rear breaks. When my old man was with me he reckoned it was disks and\or pads. A Fellow Briskodian reckons that the pads are new and the discs arn't old enough to be making the noise. Unfortunately it wasn't making the noise while he was with me Anyone else had this? its quite loud and resonates through the car. Any input would be great!

Cheers!

Its a common issue and isnt much to worry about. I believe the later pads dont squeal.

Is this car an Octy A4 vRS? If so, run a search for "mooing".

Only had my octy a few days, when I reversed into a car park space at work this morning I thought I had run over a big dog or a cow. What a noise! So glad I see this thred, thought something serious had gone wrong.

tiny bit of copper slip where the pad metal backing plate meets the metal of the carrier calliper can sometimes help.

No, I think people have cured it with different pads.

Just different pads. The issue is a complex one involving friction co-efficients, hysteresis and resonant frequencies. I don't know anyone who understands it fully, but I understand it practically, and the practicality is that the standard friction material on the vRS is precisely wrong for the pad/caliper/disc combination and is noisy when you brake in reverse as a result

Mooooooo!!

Well was driving past the garage I brought my Octy from, and they said if it is this moo-ing fault its a common one and there going to fit a (free of charge as its under warranty) anti moo-ing kit... what ever that is... most likely a cow with its jaws glued together... called Collin.

Yeah they did an anti moo kit, but only gets sorted under warranty IIRC

Summarising again, the original "anti-moo" kit was a pair of mass dampers, which actually proved to cause brake squeal when moving forwards.
The second kit was new pads with a changed compound, and I've already discussed why that works.
