|  Tesco "bio"-diesel Anyone have any opinions on this? Since moving to Andover, my local Tesco carries this low-benzene diesel at a 1p more per litre than standard diesel. I have noticed that my fuel economy has improved (got 57.5mpg over 30 miles this morning), but I suspect it was down to me going a bit slower than usual  So, is it worth the extra, and what's the advantage of running low-benzene over the low-sulphur City-diesel?  Chris

| The only thing I can think of is that Benzene is thought to be a cancer causing chemical. There was a move a few years ago to try to reduce the benzene level in petrol. The downside is that benzene is good for the octane rating.

| On one of the other forums, someone was trying to find out what changes needed to be done to the injection system for Biodiesel to be used in their Golf. I have read somewhere that not all car injection systems are suitable for bio-diesel, it depends on the material that the seals are made from. Might be worth checking with Skoda if the VAG engines can use bio and post the results on here. Doug |

| Pretty sure all the VAG ones are capable of running bio-diesel. Can't remember the website that showed this though... Rob.

| It's not technically biodiesel, it's 5% biodiesel mixed with normal diesel so it conforms to the same standard as normal diesel. Apparently the biodiesel has more oxygen in it, which allows it to combust more readily and according to their website it enabled a Golf racing team who were running a TDI to have the boost advanced further than when running on normal diesel....Also meant to run smoother and drive more refined, as well as producing fewer particles. I guess when I put the tuning box on this weekend, we will see if that's the case Chris

| Homebrew, anyone? ... and you can't avoid it in France, where a blend of biodiesel and mineral oil diesel is the norm. You can also make it yourself, as in the recipes described here. Could be a useful Briskoda project. Group Buy on used chip fat, anyone? Bryand |
