Unhappy Tyre sizes for 19" RS4 Reps on a Mk1 Octy VRS

Help !!!!!!!

A little while ago, I treated myself and fitted some rather nice and shiny new RS4 replica wheels and 235/35/19 tyres to my Mk 1 Octavia VRS only to find that the rears caught on the plastic wheel arch liners when I hit any big bumps. Not in itself a massive problem.....until that was, I loaded the boot up with more than the norm.....and then hit a rather large bump....cos the rear tyres then ripped the paint off the drivers side wheel arch

So the question is, do any of you lovely lot know if fitting 225's will make the slightest bit of difference or should I be hammering on the door of the muppets who sold me the wheels and tyres as a mail order package....whilst assuring me they were the correct fitment for my car ???.......mentioning no names

Any ideas gratefully received.....(please don't make me put the old wheels back on

PS The car isn't even lowered..........YET

you really need 225x35 19 for the correct speedo ratio. 235 are a bit to wide for the octy. The 225s should be fine, as long as the offset of the wheel is close to standard.

Cheers for that. I did call up the original supplier of the wheels and it would seem that I could of done with a bigger offset on the rears than on the fronts. They're 8" wide rims so I suppose I was always going to have problems. Prob would have been a better idea to have got the wheels and tyres from a local dealer that could have tried them on the car first, rather than get them mail order. Oh well, you live and you learn. Think I'll try the 225's though. They might just give me enough room....but will give my tyre fitter kittens.......he hates trying to shoehorn such tiny sidewalls onto such soft, shiny alloys

I'd agree with the 225s suggestion, but not with increased inset on the rears, unless you want a trailer queen, and I guess you don't from the OP.

Nothing I can see wrong with the basic idea of running 8" rims and 225 section tyres. The other thing you might want to look at would be asking a bodyshop with modified car experience if they can roll the rear archs for you.
