Default What Dv To Choose?

Since the original DV is not that good when fiddling with turbo boost and so on, I'd like an experts oppinion on which DV to choose for a replacement.

Now I don't like to put something with a membrane, a piston DV would be better in terms of reliability.

What would You recommend?

Regards,

FD

Im not an expert but a friend of mine is using a Forge DV006. He has a chip as well. Seems to work fine but it doesn't fit under the plastic engine cover.

I have the forge one...does go under the engine cover but is a tight squeeze - fits better if you reverse it...

The Forge DV007 or DVR also work well with the AUQ - or so I've heard from some of NL's Seat boy racers...

I have the Turbo Dynamics Group N, Looks Nice, seems to work fine. I've only had it for about a month so cant say anything about reliability.

But I'm not your expert. I dont even now whether this is a piston type or not.

Colin

Has anybody with a boost gauge and some respect for their engine measured the impact of reversing the DV? I still can't quite believe that something which was designed to work one way (with the piston being pushed open by the boost) is going to work in an even similar fashion reversed (with the piston being pushed SHUT by the boost).

Check this: http://dv.mistertam.com/8.htm

and this one: http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/valve_fitment.pdf

where it mentions :

"Although the valve can be fitted in either orientation, I would suggest that you fit it, THE SAME WAY ROUND AS THE ORIGINAL BOSCH VALVE. Recent tests have proven this gives a far quieter operation." - it's only a suggestion for a quieter operation ...

Hmmm - if I saw one of these valves in the flesh I'd understand better but it seems that they can be installed either way round. The guy doing the comparative tests installed them so that the stronger side was always holding the boost. Not sure he measured boost levels on the car but from his tests the Bailey looks the dog's.

I've just fitted the FMCL007P in the 'normal' orientation as advised in the Forge fitting instructions. However, I'm curious about the reversal option so will have a go at the weekend and see what happens. BTW it seems to fit ok under the engine cover.

I have the Milltek Hyperboost Diverter valve fitted, got it from AmD, never had any prob's with it. It doesn't fit under the cover and is fitted as instructions.

Is the 007P Forge making the nice psssht-sound when you change gears? Like Chris' car does.

I recon the 007p is smaller than the 006, so it fits better under the cover.

AIUI, the valve has three ports - in, out, and control. When the valve is shut, it stops air flowing from in to out. Equally, it stops air flowing from out to in. Makes no difference which way round it is. The only important bit is to ensure that the control port goes to the inlet manifold - because a low pressure at the control port (i.e. when the throttle is closed) will open the valve and allow air to flow through it whichever way round it's installed (and so allow air to recirculate from the high pressure side of the turbo back to the intake side).

My 007P DV is no more noisier than the stock valve which I must admit was slightly disappointing. According to Forge reversing the orientation will make it slightly noisier....

I just went to Forge's homepage, this is a copy'n'paste info on the 007p:

Quote:
Made from billet aluminium, this recirculating diverter valve dumps the charge-air back into the air intake system keeping external noise to a minimum. This increases both quicker throttle response and higher clamping load to maintain boost pressure more reliably.
So it's supposed to be quite.

It is, no matter which way round you install it. Differences are negligible.
