Where Is The Xenon Lamp Sensor?

hi,
does anyone know where the xenon lamp sensor is located on a octy vrs.just about to lower the car on kw coilovers and have been told to disconnect the sensor when changing the shocks

Xenon lamp sensor?
The UK Octavia RS doesn't have Xenons.
They have them as an option on the continent.

sorry forgot to say that i have a wrc vrs which does have xenons just hoping someone out there might know about xenons even though there not on the vrs:o

Maybe one of the L&K owners can shed some light on this (groan) since they'll probably have the same Xenons.
Someone round here has a lowered L&K.

It is possible to adjust the xenon height with VAG-COM.
What good would disconnecting the sensor do, it would still point too
low when you reconnect again?

Hi Nat,
I've got a L&K with Xenons.
Recently fitted Eibach Prokit lowered springs but haven't done anything with the lights during or after fitting!

Not sure what you mean by sensor, from what I have seen whilst the bonnet is up, all the control gear for the lights is on the back of the headlight unit and I assume this is both the high voltage unit and auto level control.

Anyway, my Xenons seem to work fine since lowering and height alignment doesn't seem to have changed.

hi jaytee apparently there are ride height sensors somewhere presumably on the shock absorbers? which have to be disconnected which is supposed to reset the xenons at the correct height after lowering problem is i dont know for sure what i'm supposed to be disconnecting?as as you can appreciate i don't want to mess up £400 pounds worth of xenon lamp! anyway i think i'm going to have to go to my dealer which i didn't really want to do as they will see i'm changing the suspension (warranty issues?)

Nat,

The sensor you are talking about will be a small box -- with a lever attached to one of the lower wishbones -- the box itlself is usually mounted on the body,with the lever running off -- Even if you do disconnect this unit -- I suspect you will still need to get lights adjusted -- the sensor can compensate for some of the lowering,but I doubt it will then be able to cope if you load the car --- the Xenon lights have to be adjusted with a VAG diagnostic -- you can't just wind the hedlight adjusters -- so I am afraid that will mean trip to dealer.

Call me thick if you want (and I'm sure someone will do), but if the car is being lowered all round by the same amount, surely you will not need to to make any changes to the lamps?? I thought this feature was only where (for example) the boot is full of bricks and the lamps needed to compensate.

My thoughts exactly & as I said, I haven't noticed any problem with headlight alignment or range since the car was lowered.

If the headlights were raised to, say, 6' above ground level without the dip being adjusted, they would would dazzle oncoming traffic. If instead they were dropped to, say, 6" above ground level, their range would be pretty much zero and they wouldn't dazzle at all. Applying that to the case in point, I would say that any change in suspension height will have an effect on the dip, although it may not be particularly noticeable. JMTPW.

As the WRC already has lowered suspension (compared to the L&K), I wouldn't imagine that you would be taking it down a great deal further, so whilst mathematically the range of the lights would be reduced, in real terms you wouldn't notice it. I would also doubt very much that it would cause any additional dazzle (beyond the normal Xenon dazzle) to oncoming peeps.

The level sensor uses a "base" setting to then compensate for suspension height -- so yes a minor drop in height *probably* won't have a huge effect IIRC there is a 6 point range of adjustment -- so base would be 0 with range being between -6 & +6 -- so unless you are going to seriously load the car - you should be OK -- however, if you don't disconnect the wiring socket & don't switch the ignition on whilst the sensor is off -- the car won't lose base setting -- but if you do - it will and then you WILL have to have it reset - as the range control will not then work.

Thanks for that "illuminating" (sorry!) description of the range control.
Could I assume that as when I switch on the headlights they still do the characteristic up/down movement, the range control is still functioning??
