I can do some of these drives on a Saturday one weekend before I move down and get a feel for it I guess. Saturday's can be nearly as busy and the bottlenecks soon show where they are. Well, that's how it is round here anyway.

Hi Texas,

I know Redditch Well and travelled Redditch to Brum for a couple of years.

Quite a nice easy route along A435 and up through Earlswood into Shirley.

I always used to give myself at least 45 minutes though because of traffic but often would do it in 25.

All the best with your house hunting!

Thanks mate

Went on a long old journey today...

Checked out Tamworth, Solihull, Kenilworth.

Tamworth and Kenilworth are a touch further than I'd like to commute each day. Kenilworth was nice but a bit too far from work, the road between there and BHX isn't very 'fast' (50 limit with a number of cameras IIRC) so it would take 40 mins each way, at a guess!!! The new houses (Persimmon) we saw in Tamworth were very nice but I am not sure about the surrounding area. Again, it is a little further than I'd like to travel each day.

The houses I'd picked out in Solihull were (Fallowfield road) in what seemed like not the best of areas. An ok area, but not the best. Having said that they were on the Sheldon side of Solihull. Anyone know this area and can give any advice please?

We stumbled upon Coleshill and Water Orton though, nice places. Both a stones throw from where I will be working. Nice little towns IMHO and very convenient.

Kind of fallen in love with Coleshill and will probably try and buy there, unless anyone advises against it? Stopped a couple people in the street there and they said it was a really nice place to live. Obviously very convenient for motorway network as well.

It would take me about 10-15 mins to get to work each day from there which is ideal!

We didn't go to Redditch at all, driving on M42 between Tamworth and Solihull was enough for me (on a Saturday too) to decide that it is not a road I want to use each day for commute if I can avoid it. Cameras everywhere and tons of traffic.

Coleshill IS a very nice place.. Water Orton has , although it too is nice, a bit of overspill from Castle Bromwich so you do get the odd 'yoof' hanging round kinda problems there occasionally..
