DTM - Not a good advert for Audi LED Lights

Hi,

Did anyone watch the opening round of this years DTM championship?

The new Audi A$ cars had their LED lights on. It proved to be a bad idea from the start. On the grid one of the front row cars had one side flickering and the other side part of the light wasn't working. Then during the race most of the time the lights would be flickering.

Not a very good advert I thought.

Should be another good championship again tho.

I could be wrong about this but I though LED lights on cars switched on and off rapidly rather than being on constantly. Therefore, as the telly records at a number of frames per second if the frame coincides with the light being off the the LED would appear off, obviously, if the next frame has comes in the same time as the LED being lit then the LED would be on, hence the flickering.

Having watched it on YouTube it looks like a contacts problem as they seemed to go out / come back on as the cars braked heavily or went over bumps.

I thought they seemed to be going on/off, but wasn't sure if it was the angle the cameras were at. They do look the business when working though

Its a shame the cars rely on the aero package so much , too many winglets and fins to be broken and ruin the handling. I like watching it , but cant help wishing they used the proper 'shells and one of their own companies engines , rather than the 'one V8 fits all' that they do just now.

Seemed to be working better in round 2 last weekend. I think DTM and BTCC are far more interesting then F1, close racing and they actually overtake rather than just relying on pit stops.
