me and ChrisRs chatted at the whitby meet, and we're gonna go for drive at this meet, a nice loop over the pass by the slate mine.... oh, and lunch in a pub/hotel of course (somewhere in borrowdale valley ect....) so....

Thought about Buttermere. There is a car park by the pub and we can then loop round back to Keswick through the Newlands Valley

the truth is, if we get many more we would have to reconsider the route, we ave to think about how many cars we can into one passing place! lol.

Another consideration is the fact that this is the school holidays - more traffic.

Just an idea:-

Meet'n'greet at Keswick as planned.

Food etc.

Head for Thirlmere (thru the lakes route)- a long lay-by , on the left, just after the King's head pub. A good groupshot opportunity.

Head for Bowness-on-Windermere(big carpark).

Head for Kendal (carpark next to river. Also close to M6 for last farewells etc.

yeah, and I live in Keswick! lol......

I'll give another suggestion soon, but I did the original run again yesterday (with a learner) and most of the way, you can fit two cars comfortably, it's only short stretches where its "one car only and passing places", but I'll propose another route shortly

sure I can find something just as nice, but with wider roads

being half term, it's gonna be busy everywhere anyway.....

You asked for ideas. I was thinking on the lines of trying to get 6 - 10 (optimistic) cars parked, if we went somewhere for lunch.
Coming across from West Cumbria, I will have already eaten - others may not have.

Right, I've been for a drive today and mapped out a route which I think may be a good drive, and checked out where we can stop for photo ops ect....

out of carpark through Keswick and up on to the A66 towards Penrith (bit of a boring road, cant go too fast either... scamera vans...), turn down A5091 to Ullswater, nice road to drive, not much traffic, and the views start to come in as you approach Ullswater... Turn right on th A592, travelling along the edge of Ullswater towards Windermere (slower due to more traffic, and less fun to drive, but GREAT views, and a couple of good stopping places with pleanty of room by the lake for picture opps.. come away from the lake up into the mountains, good road, but unlikey to be clear of traffic... then, turn right, an a small un-numbered road to Ableside, it is a pass that is called "the Struggle" ! lol... it is a great road for a drive, less traffic, and more fun

comes down the mountain into Ambleside... then turn right, and follow the main A591 back up into Keswick, there are some very fast bits to this road, where you can "stretch the cars legs" if you wish, a couple of short dual carrige ways for a bit of a blat, and a really cool uphill bit with room to pass cars on, and a very wide fast right-hander that goes on for about half a mile!

I enjoyed the drive... let me know what you think!?

Sounds good to me.
The 'struggle' as you call it, is the Kirkstone pass.
I haven't been to a car get-together for a few years, so looking forward to it.

cool : we'll meet at the lake carpark, have a bit of a natter and look at the cars, walk into keswick for lunch, then go for the drive, stopping at relevant places for pics (so we can post on here after!) and back to keswick for a last gather....

we just need a few more people now!

most of it will probably be a gentle drive anyway, due to half term traffic
