Default 00853 Open Circuit Speaker - but it ISNT grrr

I'm getting:

Address 56: Radio Labels: None
Part No: 1U0 035 161 D
Component: Radio GRO 0001
Coding: 00401
Shop #: WSC 00000
1 Fault Found:
00853 - Loudspeaker(s); Rear
36-00 - Open Circuit

BUT - the rear speakers work just fine! I'll clear the code, test the speakers - all okay, scan, code back. I even ran the raido with balance/fade set so ONLY that speaker could be heard, it's perfect. I'm presuming on the estate the only rear speakers are in the boot, I can't find any others/hear any others. All works fine but I have the code - anyone had this issue before?

Greg.

Are you sure it's not the rear tweater which is actually in the rear door? (Not sure if this is the same on the estate though).

I'm sure you would of noticed that though.

Take a look underneath the speakers in the boot and see if there are any connections hanging out?

Alot of people d/c the tweaters to give a better sound

No I'm not sure, I didn't know about tweeters in the doors - I'll have a look at that. I have a rear right door communications intermittant as well, maybe connected?

I can't see the underside of the estate speaker without stripping out all the side pannel, but given that it works I find it unlikely that the wires are off....

Under the speakers in the boot are the connectors for the tweaters (well in the hatchback anyway).

I had mine d/c and it came up with the same error you are getting.

I've got a feeling that estates might have a different speaker setup though.

The rear tweaters are in the rear door just by the door opening handle - right behind your ears when driving! The rear speakers have two connections on them (4 wires). Power is delivered by the headunit to the main speaker then a spur is taken off to drive the tweeter. This spur can be disconnected to stop the tweeter being harsh in your ear. I'd check that both plugs are on the speaker.
