Default 1.9TDi not accelerating properly

This started about a month ago but I've been waiting for the Haynes manual to see if there is any guidance in that - there's nothing I can see.

Get to a bit over 2000 revs when accelerating and there's a distinct flat spot. I tried it on a long hill recently and found that up to 2100 revs in fifth it pulled fine but then ...well it wasn't a brick wall, but you could feel the acceleration just not happening. It'll go above 2000 revs OK but in general there's a lack of pulling power up there. Fuel consumption is OK and changing fuel and air filters didn't help

I don't have VAG-COM - is there a link on this website about it, where to get it from and how to use it, and whether it would help with this sort of problem ?

Thanks

Rob

Have a look for the MAF or Mass Air Meter or Mass Air Sensor.

I think you need a new one

And it's an easy DIY swap, part should cost somewhere in the region of £70.

With VAG-Com ( http://www.ross-tech.com/ ) you would be able to measure the output from the sensor and check that it was under-reading before spending the money on the new part.

Try cleaning it first. It is the little thing that clips into the air filter box on the hose that comes from the air filter box to the engine.

Cleaning instructions can be found on here, but basically some isoprop or similar rinsed over the thing and then let it dry may help. Obviously all at your own risk etc.

Could be the dreaded 'dead' turbo vanes!

Plenty of threads about them. Plus an excellent DIY fix.

VAG-COM needs a cable which can be bought for around £25 on ebay, plus the price of the software itself ( $99 ) from www.ross-tech.com, or you can get the whole package from them for ~ £250

I'm still trying to work out how to use it myself, having got it all today. Plenty of links around the place, including our own VAG-COM specific forum ( http://www.briskoda.net/forums/diagnostics-vag-com/ )

I'm not sure how you find out if it's turbo's rather than the MAF, but i believe it's all in the reading..

If you've got access to VAG-COM, that will help show you what the problem is...
