Got the motor going in for its first major service tomorrow at the dealer.
I REALLY hope they don't find any extra work to do! (not at the amount it's gonna cost!)

This is what i had done on a 40k variable service @ 37,500 miles.

Skoda octavia hatch
1.8T 20V RS MPI manual AUQ 180 BHP

Variable - full service - 40k miles

filter....................... 1 @ £4.70 = £4.70
plug........................4 @ £12.22 = £48.88
element..................1 @ £14.10 = £14.10
filterem...................1 @ £15.28 = £15.28
screenwash............0.5 £@ 2.43 = £1.22
plug........................1 @ £0.96 = £0.96
1lt variable oil.........4.6 @ £11.16 = £51.35

Total for parts £136.48
Labour 2.5 hours

Total Service Cost = £284

It's a Mk1... Have been quoted £320 'unless we find anything else'

Think I will 'shop' around when it is out of warranty!

Try giving SJB autotech in Basingstoke a call. 01256 478250. They are VAG specialists, and quoted me £160 for a service on a Mk1. As long as the garage is VAT registered there should be no probs with the warranty.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Mine cost more than that, but looking at it, they changed the sparkplugs (10.40 each) and wiper blades (£20). The total bill was £533 (but I did have 2 new tyres as well @ £110 each)

Did get the usual 'no hassle' service though so guess I can't grumble.

Nice to see the good old screenwash made it in!! One of my mates ensured his car was brim full, took it in for a service and was still charged for screenwash! When questioning it, they gave him a bottle!

Yep, that was one of my charges!

The lady asked me why I was smiling when paying the bill.... I replied that I found it amusing that I had been charged for screen wash when the I knew the bottle was about half an inch from the brim!!
She did offer to refund the charge, but I didn't feel right about accepting a refund of 58pence!!!!

I remember when I worked at a garage, they always said you could get a bottle of screen wash in a full reservoir once you'd 'tested' the washers a few times...
