Default 3rd Party Warranty

Hi all,

The warranty on my 2003/53 Octy vRS expires at the end of the month, and I'm considering a 3rd party warranty. Are there any reccomended companies to try, and how much should I be looking to pay etc?

I've heard good things about Warranty Direct, but I've not yet found the differences between their Gold and Driveline policies...

Any help appreciated...

I almost bought a policy with warranty direct. I got an online quote, put my contact details in and saved them. A day later some bloke rang me back from there an offered me a warranty for much cheaper than the online quote.

25 quid a month for a franchise dealer gold policy. My online quote was 30 quid a month.

Didn't go for it in the end as they still don't cover a lot of things.

What don't they cover?

Any other reccomandations as an alternative?

I read their small print and they seemed to cover everything I'd be worried about, including wear and tear items. However, after 60k miles, there's a sliding scale for how much you contribute to the cost of the parts which starts at 10% and goes up to 50% I think at 100k miles.

An alternative may be to approach your local Skoda dealer, but expect them to charge more than Warranty Direct and not cover wear and tear items

They only cover what's listed in their booklet which isn't blanket cover, so if your seat mechanism failed it wouldn't be covered (as an example). It is still about as good as you're going to get from a third party warranty.

Apparently Skoda owners make the least amount of claims (scooby owners the most), so cover is cheap for us.

They do cover in the event of your cambelt snapping and wrecking your engine which is good though, as long as you've had your car serviced in accordance to manufacturers reccomendations etc etc.

I took out Warranty Direct Gold cover last year when the 3 year Skoda warranty expired but this year have changed to the Elita Used Vehicle Warranty now available through Skoda dealers. You really need to read both policies carefully to see which is best for you. The Elita warranty lists what is not covered whereas the Warranty Direct one lists items which are covered. During the time my car was covered by the latter I kept an eye on the component failures members were experiencing and discovered that a significant number were not on Warranty Direct's list.

The man has hit the nail on the head. The list of things warranty direct cover isn't as comprehensive as I thought.

I'm in the process of trying to claim for a seizing wiper linkage - I have the Elita policy though Skoda's approved car scheme.

The warranty company say its covered but i'm having a few admin issues as to when the dealer took out the warranty compared to when I purchased the vehicle...

Should be sorted soon enough.
