Elegance 1.8t estate 2001

Well, collected my Octavia on monday, so far I am quite pleased, the car certainly goes well and is very enjoyable to drive. The only niggles are that the climate control does not seem to work at all, well it gets warm but does not cool the air!! Dealer I bought from said he will look at it (It came with a 30 day warranty). The original radio is rubbish and the aerial housing on the roof of the car is broken, and I think it will need a complete unit not just the mast (looks like the aerial mounting screw has broken inside, though difficult to see). Annoying stuff but overall I am pleased to be a Skoda owner!

Have booked it in for a proper service at JKM next week, may even enquire about a remap!

Similar car to mine

Carefully consider a remap as it will expose the less sporty side of the Elegance such as the suspension, brakes and lack of grip under acceleration below 40mph.

re Aircon, a common fault on higher mileage ones is the clutch falls off of the Aircon compressor, the nut slowly works loose & then it falls off, normally damaging the threads on the way off. Make sure the dealer gets it sorted, If it is this & the threads are shot it means a new compressor which at a main dealer will cost about a grand fitted

Stuart, with my car on 104k this is a concern. Can you access the compressor easily to check the nut?

Hmm I've had this happen on my old 51 plate TDI. Dealer fixed it under warrenty. I'd like to check my vRS as well

It took jabba about 3/4 hour to refit a new pully to my old compressor whilst on the car & that included renovating the threads so Im guessing its easy to get at but Im not going out in the rain to look for you just now.

If it comes off & you can fix it on the car it saves a regas

I assume it is driven by the main drive (cam) belt?

By the auxiliary drivebelt - which also drives the alternator and power steering pump.

Well thats cheered me up no end! The car has done 71k. Is it easy to see if the clutch has fallen off the compressor???

has it had a cambelt change yet? If not I suggest you have a look on here for info on the water pump impellor issues.

Just something else to consider.

For what its worth mine is an identical car but has covered 104k on the original water pump and the A/C still works fine.

For what its worth mine is an identical car but has covered 104k on the original water pump and the A/C still works fine.

Phil. ours fell off somewherebetween 100 & 110,000 so you could be in that time zone so worth checking

Ask JKM to check it when they service it, if its still there ask them to loctite the nut or burr over the end of the thread to stop it falling off later, its a very common fault so being the clever guys they are they will probably have there own way of ensuring it dosent come off

WHY Skoda didnt fit a lock nut I will never know, guess they wanted to sell loads of compressors at silly money

Thanks, Will ask JKM to do a check when it has its cambelt etc done next week. Spoke to the dealer that sold it to me today and I am taking it locally next tuesday to look at the a/c. They said it probably just needs a re-gas, but to my thinking if there is no gas in it, then why not?? Must be going somewhere!

Another query I have is that the running is a tad lumpy and hesitant below 2k revs? Any ideas. Will get that looked at when I have the service as well!

Get a metal impellor water pump fitted with the cambelt - do a search on here to find out why

The air temps we've been having the last few months Climatronic won't cool the air unless you set it to "chill" as a test. It will blow either warm or ambient temperature air to try and achieve and maintain the selected temperature.

Is "chill" a different setting to "low"? As I cant see that on the display? Will check my owners manual!

The cooling system of the Climatronic does not operate when the outside temperature is lower than +5°C.
