| Drove to work this morning and the car was driving perfect, on my way home about a tenth into my journey i noticed the octy seemed to be a bit low on power.. I have been out in it this evening and its not right at all, before you could hear the turbo spinning in all gears, now only a small amount in 1st and 2nd anything higher and its just a bit gutless.. sitting at 80 in 5th just in boost if you poked the throttle a bit it would surge and shoot off now it just drived like a standard none turbo car. Any ideas guys? will VAG-COM tell me is something is up? |

| Sounds like a boost hose has come off. It'd be louder too if it's that.

| Sounds like the ECU has shut down. MAF problems can feel like this but usually you can still hear it boosting. VAG COM will help in finding the cause. Have a search around for '17705' and see if anything sounds familiar.

| Second question, anyone near darlington/middlesbrough with VAG-COM willing to help out a fellow briskodian? I drove to work this morning hoping it may have sorted itself.. normally if you floor it in second on a wet road the traction control light blinks like crazy.. nothing of the sort! ![]() Last edited by apinner; 18-05-2006 at 09:28. |

| Someone at work came up with a suggestion, on his subaru if a sensor or something fails the ecu goes into a derated state to try and protect the engine. Does the octavia ECU do the same? If so wouldn't i be seeing a engine warning light on the dash? |

| If you say it feels like NA engine and you can't hear the dv venting...even in a standard car you can hear it a little..then it's gone into limp mode..i.e. ECU by passes/shuts down turbo...no lights come on....IIRC.....basically what Ross said. ![]() IMHO. *Note: all my usual disclaimers apply. ![]()

| Its not limping.. its still quickish just not the same as it was in the morning. Ah well i have booked it into the local skoda garage and they are going to diagnose the problem. Fingers crossed its not going to set me back a small fortune! |

| Sounds like a hose problem to me. Without a diagnostic check it is difficult to tell though. |

| Well the garage just rang. Plugged in the ecu and it had a fault saying there was sparodic pressure in one of the turbo intake hoses. No one could tell me if thats what was causing the problem, or if fixing the pipe would solve the issue as it may be masking another problem. So they advised the pipe be replaced next wednesday and run some more diagnostics. But they are going to charge me £125 for the pleasure. And if that doesn't fix it then more on top of that. pffftttt i have only had the car a fortnight! |

| Did you ever find out what the problem was? Every now and then, Mine seems to go ok to 80, then even if change to 4th, won't go any faster. Nightmare if overtaking at the time. Please tell me it was a cheap and easy fix. |

| Yeah.. it turns out its a common problem! search for "where does this pipe go" or something similar and you will find the pipe. It goes into the bottom of the intercooler and apparently has a dodgy seal. It cost me £38 for the pipe and took me 15 minutes to fit using nothing more than a trolley jack, axle stands and a flat head screw driver. |
