Default My vRS is in the garage for peace of mind

My Octy Vrs is in the garage today having its cambelt, tensioner and water pump done.
Having got 75k on the clock i thought it would be best to get it done so ive got no worries of the belt going on me costing me prob 1500 +.

A very sensible decision. Would you please post the cost for information when done?

first thing i did when i bought mine (2001, 63k miles) was get the belt changed.... like you say piece of mind

what damage would be done if the water pump went? guy looked at mine and said it was fine, thou said the cambelt had a bit of wear... what does the book say? 120,000 before a change or something mad like that :|

Done 52k now.Not had a service for 18 months.60k should come up next Feb(2 year gap!)

Going to ask for the full treatment too.Cam belt etc.

Still get nervous about a ' performance' saloon going that long between services.

If your water pump goes it won't circulate the coolant around the engine, the engine will overheat and it could cause the engine to distort. Most engines it's not a big issue really cos you notice the overheating and get it looked at. In cars with all alluminium blocks it can be a big problem as they are very prone to warping when over-heating this in turn results in the head becoming distorted and resulting in head gasket failure. That can equal a lot of money to fix.

I believe that the plastic impellers in earlier water pumps are prone to failure. Later modded water pumps should last longer.

The price quoted for a cambelt change and tensioner was £230 and he was going to check to see if water pump was ok.Got a phone call this afternoon saying the water pump does need replacing as it is leaking slightly so best to change now rather than in a couple of months.
I told him to make sure its the modified water pump but he knew about the problem with the nylon impellors so he knows his stuff
