| Picked up my 04 VRs estate yesterday night and as soon as i left I wondered if I was hearing things or not? A small movement of the steering wheel to the right from centre makes a drone. The pitch increases with speed and does not go if braking or when depressing the clutch. This noise was not present when I test drove the car, and the only work the mechanics should ahve done in that area was the new front tyres. I have checked that there is nothing catching on the tryes, but find it hard to belive a wheel bearing could suddenly go like that. But a problem with the tyres would not sound like that? Any ideas? Is a wheel bearing easy to change myself? |

| Wheel bearings can be chaged yourself, although I wouldn't recommend without a press / the right tools and know what you are doing. Bearings are relatively cheap circa £35, find a local garage to do it. Could be a stone stuck between disc and shield.....

| It actaully sounds like the tyre rubbing on something, but I've checked and everything is clear. My local garage quoted £100 to fit!! |
