Default Removing plug on central locking unit

Hi,

Last year I've started a thread about problems with the central locking of my Octavia.
(central locking on drivers door not working, interior light not working when driversdoor open, no "lights on" alarm...) I've opened the door (found the time) but haven't removed the unit yet.

Has anyone done this? I would want to begin with checking the plug at the bottom of the CLU. Why? When I push it, everything works fine, so it is just bad wiring I suppose. But I don't manage to remove the plug from the unit....
Can anone help?

Thanks

Hi

I too posted last year regarding exaclty the same problems with my 'Central looking' as follows:-

1. Unable to lock / unlock drivers door with key fob.
2. No interior lamp illumination when drivers door opened
3. nO 'lights on' alarm
4. Unable to control driver side miror.
5. LED on door not flashing (no light at all)

At the time I had a good response to my original thread which seemed to suggest that It was either the 'electronic' convinience box or faulty wiring loom.

Now that the weather has turned I took the door panel off to take a good look at what was going on. It was my intension to check voltages across the connector connected to the doorlock motor. However I too it seems cannot remove the connector. Unlike you moving these cables didn't seem to help

While this doesn't help you directly in any way, I too would be most grateful for any advise members have to offer

Thanks

Default Re: removing plug on central locking unit

Hi

I had similar problems with central locking, interior lights, electric windows and motors etc. Traced the problem to a corroded connector on the drivers door convenience controller. The connector (29pin I think) is released by levering a 'c' shaped slider which is wrapped around 3 sides of the connector - this pulls the connector out of the socket. It needs a reasonable degree of force to overcome the initial resistance (there is a tight fitting rubber gasket on the connector).

My connector had water in it, tried cleaning the corroded sockets with electrical spray cleaner but 2 sockets had broken internally in the connector. The connector cannot be dismantled. Had to replace the wiring loom in the door (about £50 for the part).

Check also if the pins on the controller are corroded - easily cleaned with emery paper, but we careful not to break them! The controller unit can be removed from the window motor that it is connected to by levering off a couple of metal clips, then carefully rocking it out of its socket. Check that it is clean and dry.

Hope this helps. I still have the old wiring loom and connector so i can post pics and part number if you need them.

Is it possible to unplugg the connector without removing the locking unit? Those pictures might be a great help.
The controller on my octavia is not located on the window motor. It's located at the doorlock.

Thanks already,
Wim

Hi

yes you can unplug the connector from the convenience controller without removing the unit. On my 03 Octavia the controller is just below the electric window motor, in the middle of the door towards the bottom edge (it a black plastic rectangular box). Access to it is good.

See this thread for some pics (thanks to Gaff for great pics)

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/octav...ghlight=window

See this guide in the VWVortex site for close ups of connectors etc (shows Golf / Jetta MkIV door, but the parts are the same as the Octy)

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1015107

Refer to section 13 and 14 for pics of the convenience controller and connector removal.

If you need to unplug the doorlock connector, refer to section 33, which shows the 8 pin connector. You have to squeeze the tab hard and pull to release the connector.

Good luck!
