Default RFL for a vrs

Hi Guys,

A stupid question but I dont know the answer

How much is the current road tax for a vrs in the UK (12 months)?

Is it a straight forward £185.00 or does it go on emmissions after a certain age?

Thanks for the answer

Heres the DVLA link:

after a certain date in 2001 it goes on emissions rather than the under or over 1558cc or whatever it is.

Mk1 vRS (registered post 2001) costs the following per year:

£205 last year
£210 this year
£260 next year
£270 the year after that
Then who knows, £500??!

If it's an older vRS then it's just £185 per year.

Where do the road taxes go?? The roads around me are falling apart. The government are taking the p*ss.

revolution anyone? What if everyone in the country stopped paying all their taxes? damn the man.

P.S. The latest EVO magazine has a useful article on how to dodge the hefty taxes. For example, import a new vRS from outside the EU, and only pay the old rate of £185.

It seems a bit off to me that people can run around in a mega-polluting car of the 80's/90's with the same size engine as mine (or much bigger!) and pay £185 a year when I pay £210 a year!

As a comparison (CO2 emissions taken from the Parkers website):

1995 Golf VR6 - 199 g/km
1996 BMW 328i - 218 g/km
2002 Octavia vRS - 192 g/km

A mate of mine last year bought a jap import 1995 nissan 300ZX pushing 480 BHP and pays much lower rates than me, cars like a brand new motor and cost £1500 less than mine did with lower miles. I know what I will be doing when it's time for a change

Sadly i think thats the way that it will go either older cars or imports because lets be honest.
You pay more insurance on and import sometimes but not enough to warrant paying £500 a year tax!

Isnt it funny how road tax has increased by more than 100% with the introduction of the computerised VOSA car taxing system. Welcome to the life in England to patriots, its a dictatorship now.

Ouch - up 20 270 quid!

Costs me $180 (72 quid) here and only $40 of that is road tax - the rest goes to the ACC who cover accident injuries and stuff.

So, what I can save will pay the speeding fines.

At least I can decide where the money goes.

Very good article in Evo regarding this as mentioned, its a joke..

Mr Brown has just had a shock in the general elections but I doubt this will help anything.

This is my theory..

Better job =more tax
Nice car to go with this (higher CO2 emmisions) = more tax
This usually means a bigger commute to work resulting in more petrol= more tax
Nice new car means you can afford expensive RFL = more tax

Certainly not towards making this a better country to live in. Pols are leaving as they can now make more money back home, same goes for other nationalities.

Companies like Porsche have taken london transport to court because of this new 'tax'. If they carry on they will drive companies like this out of the EU as people will not buy these type of cars. I can't work out the logic, I think cars account for 10% of CO2 emissions which is nothing, yet they are punished the most. You drive a bigger car, you use more petrol in which you pay more tax and now they want you to pay even more?!

I have heard rumours they expect a barrel of oil to hit $200 which will mean over £2 a litre, everything else (food, electricals etc) will be hit as a result. They are holding back on technologies like hydrogen powered cars, biofuels etc with scarmongering.. not sustainable etc etc which is rubbish, they just don't want their highly profitable taxes to be hit.

Rant over..

All very true, but untill we quiet English people start to speak up and fight. Nothing will change.

right then revolutionists!

what if we rallied together a few thousand people from around the country in cars on a sunday night. drove to london, arriving early monday morning. literally filled every street, road, parking space, motorway and carriageway with cars. then just turned our engines off and walked away.

they cant tow 20,000 cars!! london would be f*cked. simple.

then we just go and sit in a pub all week till the criminals 'running' our country realise that they dont.

WE run the country, they should do as we tell them. they work for us, and its about time the english public stood up for themselves.

they know they can just name any random price they want for our taxes. and we wont do a thing about it.

if we wanted to overthrow the government, we could.
