Default Serving & Cambelt costs?

How much should a 60000 mile service and a cambelt change cost me on my 2001 RS?
Its booked in to a Skoda dealer for 2 weeks time but they wouldn't quote me a figure over the phone, not even a rough guess. Dont want to be hit for a huge bill but i'm guessing about £300ish? Am I about right?

No chance.

On my derv the cambelt alone is almost £500 and the service is £300 at dealer prices.

Since your car is (I assume) out of warrenty, I'd go find a good independant and get them to do it with genuine parts. (Although has anyone got an opinion on the 'GSF OE spec' parts

£300 is v optimistic, I was quoted £225 just for cambelt change at local Skoda dealer. The 40,000 service cost over £300 inc haldex oil & filter.

Could not afford cambelt this time but as car only done 39,000 hopefully will be ok.

If you phone around you will find the price varies a lot.
I had my 51 plate Octy in for a 40,000 mile service and cam-belt done a fortnight ago and the best price I found was £387 all in. The dearest was £545, both were Skoda dealers but the difference was labour rates and a discount from the cheaper garage for my car now being older than 5 years.

I'm based in the Scottish central belt so not sure if it's much help.

I was quoted £440 today for a cambelt and water pump, fitted. No service. I think UI must have been wearing my "MUG" t-shirt again!

Hi

This info may help to give a rough guide to garage prices for repairs for the Skoda range. This is freely available on the Skoda web site

If you go to the official Skoda UK website and follow the "businesssales/fleet/fleetmanage" link
Download the excel doc for your model type at the bottom of the page
I am reluctant to put in a direct web link as it may infringe forum rules

Interesting info !!

Sounds about right for main dealer pricing. We are t £85 + VAT per hour iirc.

Had it been a dealer I would have expected that price but sadly it was an independant garage. My local main dealer is £47p/h. Labour seems to very alot around the country though

cambelt change time lists at around 2.5hours, so depending on how plush **** Turpin's showroom is where you live, the $$ value of the labour could vary considerably. genuine cambelt kit is in the region of £120 retail iirc.. genuine waterpump approx £45

OE (made by INA) cambelt kit and all-metal waterpump from GSF £80 all in

Book time is 3.3 hours for a diesel. 2.9 for a petrol.

Anybody comment on the quality of the GSF (INA) cambelt kits then?

got my slx tdi serviced(oil service) last week plus timing belt, tensioner and pulleys. As car is now at 100000m also got the water pump changed all at my local vw independant specialist. The total bill was £412 which I thought was a lot but reading your comments now I feel so much better. I'm pretty sure he sources his parts from GSF so should be OK. He showed me the new water pump which had metal impeller. Cost of it was £21 something I seem to recall, belt £20 odd and tensioner kit approx £110.
I probably shouldn't gloat somethings bound to go wrong now.

Had the Cambelt, tensioners and Metal impeller water pump done on mine at 65K, the water pump impeller died so had no choice, local Dealer, Claybank motor company quoted me £295 all in, had it done at Awesome GTI as they matched the price.....did a top job as well!
