| Re: Skoda Road Test Your Car @ Service?!?! Hi
When we do a service , we road test the car
It is to check on noises and steering
It is I think a neccesity
The car should not be ragged ,, but just a mile or so to check that the car is all ok

Car: BlackMagic Fabia (165BHP / 280lbs/ft) | Re: Skoda Road Test Your Car @ Service?!?! I think a road test is part of the official inspection service, for reasons Sarah's explained. If you're worried, note down the trip meter reading (don't reset it!*) as this has a resolution of 180 yards and so is more accurate than the odometer. Then when you pick the car up, you'll know almost exactly how far the car's been driven. Sure, it won't tell you much else, but at least you know they won't have taken it to London and back...
*Otherwise all they have to do is reset it as well!

| Re: Skoda Road Test Your Car @ Service?!?! If you are concerned then I would suggest you raise these with the service manager. He should hopefully be able to put you at ease to the professional approach they would take on any roadtest.
By the way I unfortunately did not have a roadtest undertaken by my Skoda dealer on the last service interval but would have appreciated it to make sure that averything was above board.
The reason no roadtest was I had 2 defective tyres (not known by me up until that point) and they therefore refused to run the roadtest. This would be an extreme way to stop a roadtest and certainly not recomended.

Why not do both - if you re-set the Trip 1 (or Trip 2 if you are leaving the car all day - they may road test more then 2 hours before you pick the car up) it will show how far they went, average speed and average mpg etc assuming they don't re-set it.
If the trip meter has increased and Trip 1 (or 2) has been reset maybe you could then ask why. Or just specifically tell them it must not be re-set.

Returned to dealer and the discovered a turbo hose had been blown off, Dealer then said "That happen's on these sometimes if you really rag them".
The car had been driven To Luton (By a mechanic) for an MOT and returned to the dealer prior to my collection. So I assume he ragged it for the 15 or so miles of motorway
My car has never been back for any work and I only use them for parts now and I use an independant for all my work that I can't do myself.

| Re: Skoda Road Test Your Car @ Service?!?! I'd be annoyed if they *didn't* road test my car when doing a full service.
I wouldn't want it thrashed for miles but I do want to know that someone's taken it for a quick spin to check that it's driving as it should.

| Re: Skoda Road Test Your Car @ Service?!?! Depending on service or work then I carry out a road test (you need to, how you going to check anything otherwise). Two routes, one 4 miles (for servicing etc, one 10 miles with a few bumpy sections for rattles etc.
Do I rag customers cars? only if they deserve it

Car: #000000 Superb (###BHP / ###lbs/ft) | Re: Skoda Road Test Your Car @ Service?!?! I would never trust a dealer to road test a car...I have seen too many cars get thrashed out of various garages by mechanics for me to be deeply distrustful of them. There is one garage I would trust and you know what, I know that the guy there would give it some real stick, The difference is that he would still manage to drive with mechanical sympathy and would let the thing warm up and cool down before and after giving it some.

Car: Black Octavia (200BHP) | Re: Skoda Road Test Your Car @ Service?!?! ...I have much the same concern with my car, hence the reason I only go to one Independant garage. I see it that effectively I am trusting any mech/tech with my life, so I want it right.
The place I use do a road test, and will give a spirited drive, although they follow the same sort of prodecure I would (Drive with no or little boost until warm, no standing starts (unless the saxo at the side REALLY demands it!) and will run the last mile or so under 2krpm plus a brief period at idle before shutting down.
Bottom line is, I want my car to be perfect, and I ASK them to test everything, however, I can trust them not to go silly in my pride and joy!

| Re: Skoda Road Test Your Car @ Service?!?! Richie -i just hope the mechanic that is servicing you car reads this thread. calling all mechanics nob heads is a bit pathetic.
how can you check if a car is right without a roadtest?

Car: Silver VRS (180BHP) | Re: Skoda Road Test Your Car @ Service?!?! I agree with Dr. Zoidberg above. I'd be p*ssed off with them if they didn't take my car for a test drive to check it.
They're covered by insurance. And if they break anything it's their responsibility to fix it.

Car: Black Octavia (180BHP) | Re: Skoda Road Test Your Car @ Service?!?! 1) I didnt say ALL mechanics are nob heads just wrote some lil nob head mechanic which i might add i know plenty but for arguments sake not all Mechanics are nob heads
2) Ok so lets say for arguments say they do prang or break my car and are covered by insurance to get it sorted . . . are they going to be able to give me an immaculate mk1 Octy VRS with 16k on the clock . . . . prob not so they carry out repair work and i lose money when i come to resell it and a pranged car is never the same, with how much space there is in the engine are they going to swap engine and drivetrain etc etc etc as it always has a nock on effect?
Mind you i would accept a new VRS
