| Radiator mounts? ARB bushes would creak from either side wouldnt they? Seeing as it goes from one side to the other. |

| All 4 corners!? If it was just one corner I'd be thinking arm bushes, and suggest a few drops of brake fluid on the offending corner. If it was one end I'd suspect ARB bushes on that end, and if it was front only, maybe radiator mountings as per Goochie's reply. |

| Interesting - ours has started doing it too! Nearside front - slight creak if I bounce the car by hand but really irritating when driving over speedbumps or rough surfaces. Sounds like a feature that occurs when it gets warm. J

| Mines been back to the dealer to have new rad mounts fitted twice now. The symptoms suggest that this is the case. For a deffo answer then open the bonnet and give the radiator a little shake (obviously when cold/luke warm), if it squeeks thats your problem. The mounts are difficult to replace as it means a bumper and rad removal apperently. The mounts themselves cost about £2 but I'd h8 to see the labour charge. Gets worse in warm weather. Mine got to the point that it squeeked everytime I went over a slight bump or even shutting the drivers door. Hope this helps.

| I have had a situation where my normally quiet Octy became a barrel of rattles and squeeks as soon as the hot weather arrived. Suspensions, doors and the boot lid were the main sources of the problem, even when driving on smooth roads. It made driving the car an unpleasent experience, rear seat passengers even mentioned it. The door rattles appeared to originate from inside the panels. I wasted much time removing the panels and trying to locate the sources, as well as trying every possible position of the door receivers, but to no avail. A chance mention of it to a workmate (a mechanic) provided the answer, WD40 sprayed in a few places. The door seals, bootlid seals and suspension bushes, he advised, were the cause of the problems and all recieved a liberal shot of WD40. These seals appear to increase in friction or become less plyable when the air is dry and hot. A few minor internal trim rattles (air vents and around the glove box) also got the WD40 treatment with total success. The transformation is massive, totally silent. Before you undertake an investigation into an annoying rattle or squeek, it might be the simple remedy to your problem. |

| Just had my car in for NCT (Irish equivalent of MOT but more stringent!) I have the same problem and thought it would cause a fail as they test the suspension completely but it passed with flying colours so shocks etc are fine must try the WD-40 and see what happens it's extremely annoying especially at work where there are loads of speed bumps in the car park and you're trying to look cool in your lovely Black Magic! |

| I have this on my 2003 Octavia Elegance TDi, my problem started in May when on a hot day I used the climate control for the first time in ages, after about 30 mins I was hearing/feeling through the floorpan this horrendous graunching noise which got worse the further I went and which was evident when bouncing the front OS wing up and down upon arrival at our destination, however having been away for about three hours when I got back to it and bounced the wing and the noise had gone and on the drive home didn't return (air con off) got my dealer to check it they found nothing wrong then over the weekend 1/2nd July I used the air con again, noise came back and went after leaving the car for a few hours. It only came after having the air con in use my dealer took it in last week to check the air con but found no problem and couldnt get the noise to come back so I took it away for a spin and sure enough after about ten mins the noise started again, went straight back to dealers to demonstrate noise to them by bouncing OS front wing only for them to ID the fault as the bushes on the ARB and not a 1K plus air con fault. They lubbed the bushes some oil and advised me to give it a few days and call them if noise came back, the drive home from them was bad, the noise was terrible with the air con on or off and since then (last Thursday 6th July) although not as intense the noise is now apparent all the time with or without air con running so I plan to book it in for a new ARB, bushes and drop links. I've posted this separately from this post if you want to read more check:- http://www.briskoda.net/forums/octav...air-con/57076/ Bakie ![]() |
