| Check that no hoses, etc have got jammed in the linkage above the gearbox..... |

| headlamp covers are nice and big. Pretty sure that someon (with a TDi - maybe) got the small (little finger sized) air hose from the filter box jammed.... |

| all looks clear nothing in the way of the gear lever mechanism or the gearbox. both cables thro the bulkhead look ok. I suspect it might be the mechanism on the gear box but not sure how it should look normally. Thanks Ken |

| You could try taking the linkage off the top of the selector on the box and see if it's a linkage or gearbox problem.

| As Matt said I had a piece of plastic that held the selector to the wire break on a previous car, but it is kind of obvious. Have you tried putting some WD40 on the selector over night and some suitable grease or similar on the ball at the base of the gear stick? I'd say worth a shot before you start looking at the more expensive options. It might be worth trying to take the handbrake off and gently rocking the car in gear. IIRC we did this to a friends uni banger to get it out of a gear it was stuck in.
